@Pirouette: I cook them on the stove and then let them cool in the fridge for a couple of minutes.

@Anagram: I boil mine whole for about 40 minutes then plunge them in cold water to make it easy to take the skins off with my hands. Then I slice them and sauté with earth balance, salt, a bit of brown sugar, and salt.
Also, try different varieties. Golden beets are sweet and super delicious,

@LovelyPlum: Yes she loves red onion! And garlic cloves, and wasabi, and curries, and hot sauce. She's a girl after her mama's heart.

Mine is only 6 mo so we haven't been able to venture that far. But she will definitely be getting curry! I make lots of spicy food!! I'm sure she'll get some of the other ones eventually. Hope she likes spices...

@avivoca: do you remove the skin layer? or just give her the whole thing and let her eat the skin? they seem like they would be great finger foods but in practice, they just don't work for us!

almost all of them (we're vegetarians, so there are some exceptions)
he loves curry - a favorite!

From the list, they've tried: Brussels sprouts, artichoke hearts, sashimi, curry, beets, eggplant, and pork belly
They liked: brussels sprouts, sashimi, curry, and pork belly.
Not a fan of the rest!

@Pirouette: I give them with the skin. Sometimes they come out on their own.

a good amount of these! olives are one of their favorite foods and yesterday charlie devoured his brussel sprouts for the first time!

She loves beets and eggplant, but hasn't had any of the others. We need to start branching out on her foods now that she's getting better about feeding herself!
Some less-common grains she's had are millet, amaranth, and quinoa (which is sort of common, I guess).

Lima Beans were my favorite food as a kid, so we tried them with Dylan. He wasn't a huge fan.

One night, I gave LO plain chicken while I ate my own curried version, and he stole some of mine and loved it!
We're still working on most veggies since he doesn't like very much, but in the meantime, at least he likes V8!

@Pirouette: We just boil them until they're soft. We're frequent lima eaters though, it's one of my very favorite veggies.

LO's had olives, Brussels sprouts, artichokes, and eggplant. She likes most things. She loves black olives.

About half these things. He loves olives and yellow curry.
In fact if we have any yellow curry in the house he wants it with rice and will eat it all up. No matter how spicy it is... which it usually isn't that spicy but one place we got it was kind of spicy and he still wanted it.

We LOVE beets in our house - roasted, with olive oil and salt. Yum! D eats them like candy (when he's in the right mood). He's tried olives and wasn't a big fan. He tried pickles and didn't like them at first, but just had them last night in a Cuban pork tenderloin roll, and he was picking them out to eat them!

Beats, olives and curry. But he's had duck and goat cheese too! I'm not sure I've had that many of these!
Eta: okay I just looked back and that's not exactly true. I've tried most of these but don't eat many of them regularly.

@NavyRN2012: maybe i'm just not patient enough! they never seem to get soft enough haha.

4 from the list: olives, artichoke hearts, curry, and pork belly.
The only one I thought might be weird is curry, but LO likes it. Not surprising since I love it.
For those of you who have given kimchi and sashimi - at what age? K has definitely attempted stealing some sashimi.

@shopaholic: I think my MIL gave LO 1 some sashimi around her first birthday and she didn't like it. LO 1 tried it again about 2 weeks ago and seemed to enjoy it!

@Anagram: dice the beets into small cubes, toss in olive oil, salt and pepper, and roast them in the oven. They get all crispy and sweet!
LO has eaten beets, Brussels sprouts, olives, and curry

My LO has had almost everything on the list. He especially loves pork belly tacos!
pomelo / 5791 posts
DS hasn't had any of these. He's the pickiest eater. He won't even eat chicken or pasta or rice.
