Out of curiosity, has anyone had a version, where the doctor (externally) tried to flip baby from breech (or transverse, I guess) to head down? Mine seems to have flipped at about 36 weeks, do now I'm 37 weeks and debating the (doctorly-admitted likely unsuccessful) version or the planned c-section. For what it's worth, I am not super pro-natural-everything. An epidural was definitely part of my birth "plan." Thoughts?

@JessiBee: My son was sideways so my OB said she could probably flip him. Well, she couldn't and he came out facing the left (including his shoulders) and I tore and had an episiotomy. So, I vowed that if next time my baby was not turned probably, that I'd just go the c-section route, because basically by the time she realized he was not easy to rotate, it was time to push! So, I wouldn't risk it. (my opinion; i'm no genius)
What I would do is read up online and watch youtube videos of ways to flip a breech baby. There are TONS of poses and movements to do to encourage baby to flip. -
@JessiBee: I went with a csection and I'm so happy I did. LO was wrapped up in her cord and my doctor said I would have needed an emergency csection at 37 weeks (when the version would have been done) if we would have tried it. Having a csection was pretty horrible for me, but I don't regret my decision to skip the flip.

I've talked to moms that had successful versions! Have you checked out spinningbabies or tried a chiropractor that knows the Webster technique or even acupuncture?!
My MW has experience in breech birth so she's seen babies flip IN labor! She always tells other moms to wait until labor starts on its own so you know baby is ready since it's signaled the body and baby has plenty of time to turn... if baby still stays breech then go with the cesarean.

@JessiBee: I opted not to have the version and had a planned c-section at 40 weeks instead, which went brilliantly and was a great experience. I chose not to do it because my doc said the chances of it working on a first time mum were less than half and I was scared that the baby would react badly to my nervousness and potentially cause an immediate c-section.

@JessiBee: My LO turned extended breech at around 34 weeks and was turned by ECV at 38 weeks. My philosophy was that without attempting the ECV I would be having a scheduled c-section whereas at least an ECV gave me a shot at a natural birth. I also believe that the level of risk associated with ECV is still far lower than that associated with c-section. Worst case scenario we would have had our baby two weeks ahead of due date (the risk of ECV resulting in an emergency c-section is about 0.5% at my hospital)
I had one OB decline to do the procedure due to my anterior placenta but two others agreed to give it a shot. As one of the OB's said, the 50% success rate means nothing when it comes to actually performing the procedure.
As it happens LO literally took less than thirty seconds to be turned, the procedure wasn't painful at all and I went on to have a vaginal (albeit long and difficult) delivery as I'd hoped.

My LO was transverse for a good part of my third tri, she turned at 37 weeks. I used some techniques from spinningbabies.org
My OB would not do a version on me because I was in PTL.
