We all have had or know someone that had a pinterest fail, but do you have any pinterest wins?
This year I have two for the holidays alone:
- Tree stump for my little fake tree to sit in
- Kraft paper and washi tape wrapping and taped on washable markers for the munchkins

I made some candy corn tie dyed shirts for the family this year. They didn't look perfect but I really liked them!
My big fail was wheat flour and veggie oil indoor sand...complete disaster!

@looch: it took me forever to find one but luckily in the end an uncle had just cut down a tree. It's heavy as heck but it'll dry out over the next year and get lighter. Our tree is just under 4', and I'm hoping along with looking nice that the cat will stop climbing through the tree!!

I made these salt dough ornaments last year. Super easy and a big hit with the grandparents.

@babycanuck: How did you secure the tree to it? Is it drilled at the top?

@looch: We used a paddle bit on the drill (1") to go down 3-4 inches in the middle of the top and tested it with the bottom part of the tree. Once it sat in comfortably that was it! No need for that ugly green wire thing it came with.

I made this. I still need to DH to tie the wire hanger so the jungle bells don't come off and then add the ribbon.

@kiddosc: do you have any tips for making those? I tried last year and it was an epic fail! (and how?!? it's suppose to be easy to make!!)

Some of them were a little soft in the middle still, but I let them sit out overnight and they dried out. Then I painted them white, let them sit overnight, and painted the rest the next day. The black is just done with sharpie. I sprayed them down with some polycrylic after they were all dried so hopefully they'll hold up.

I made a wreath by hot gluing a bunch of bulb ornaments onto a wooden wreath frame. Like this but obviously a wreath: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nhmagazine/5184623645/
It worked out great but I put it on a hook on my front door and last year was when it was ridiculously cold. Apparently hot glue doesn't last in that low of temps and all of the balls fell off.

@yoursilverlining: This isn't quite as "Pinterest"-y but we made handprint ornaments using this clay called Sculpey. I bought it at Hobby Lobby. You mold it like Play-Doh and then bake it in the oven to harden it. It was really easy and the ornaments turned out so well.

@kiddosc: It was like I couldn't get LO's hand to make a good, deep print in the clay. And then I think I baked them too long because they just cracked in half
@My Only Sunshine: Hmmm, I use Sculpy a lot to create dollhouse miniatures, but I had not thought about using it to make a handprint like this. Was it hard to get your LO's hand imprint in deep enough to look good in the clay?

@yoursilverlining: No, it was pretty easy to get a good imprint. We rolled it out with a rolling pin first and cut it with a cookie cutter. Then I put her hand in place and I pushed down on her hand to make sure it was even. She was an infant, otherwise she could have done that part on her own.

@yoursilverlining: I left the dough probably about a quarter inch thick and then had to press on each of his fingers to get a good imprint. I think the thicker dough kept them from getting too dried out too. There were definitely a couple first attempts that didn't look great, but I re-rolled the dough and tried again (before baking).
