Need to take my wedding set in and not sure if I should go to a local jeweler or a chain like tapper's.
We got engaged in 2009 and I haven't had it done yet! Mine are platinum and DH's ring is white gold that hasn't been buffed /dipped yet either.
What do you recommend?

I have had it buffed once. It's 18k yellow gold. Made the ring all shiny but I think they recommend you don't do it too often?

I've had my engagement ring buffed once (platinum) and have considered having my wedding band dipped but haven't yet (white gold)

Ours are platinum too; I got my engagement ring cleaned a few times when I went back to resize, and when we went to purchase our wedding bands. Then I was able to get my whole set cleaned when we took our friends there.
I don't think I will go unless I see them in wretched shape.

We had our platinum rings engraved for our first anniversary, and the jeweler buffed and polished them before engraving. We haven't since because we love the patina that platinum gets over time! It's nice to have it be so low maintenance because I don't think I'd stay up-to-date on redipping white gold.

Nope. I got engaged at Christmas 2008, still haven't dipped my engagement ring or wedding band. I would probably take them to the new jeweler where I got my mother's ring from. We've formed a nice relationship with them, so I would give them our business.

My wedding set needs to be rhodium plated (they're white gold), but haven't. I wanted to when we were in San Fran bc the person we bought it from lives there. Unfortunately, they weren't in town when we were. I don't wanna be apart from my rings for an extended amount of time, so I haven't mailed it to them.
My right hand ring is a Tiffany's (also white gold), and I get it replated often since they're close to us and they will ship it to our home once it's done.

I get my rings redipped every year when I have them inspected for the warranty. They do it for free.

I have white gold - we take them back to the jeweler and have them redipped every year or so.

I get it re-dipped and cleaned and have the stones checked every year. I take it back to the jeweler where we bought it, cuz they do it for free.
ETA: My rings are white gold.
