I never got a chance to try since I had a commitment not to date til Junior year of college, then Wagon Sr. and I started dating my Senior year and have been together ever since. I ALWAYS like to say that if I were single, I'd LOVE to try out eharmony or similar and I'd LOVE to try speed dating!!
I'd love to hear your stories if you've tried either (or both), and I'd LOVE to hear success stories!!!!!!!

@mrbee: yup... my youth pastor from high school got me and my friend to make the commitment. Strangely enough we both ended up marrying our first real boyfriends. And they are best friends with each other. Hah!

When I was single I moved to NY for a year and got super lonely the first month not knowing anyone, so I signed up for two different dating websites. I got a lot of "hits" lol, started IM'ing with a few different guys, but they all turned out to be weirdos lol most of them were kinda creepy. Like one guy asked, "so, do you like to cuddle?" lol it was bizarre and rubbed me the wrong way. So I stopped because I was afraid of getting into trouble or meeting someone dangerous lol.

@mrs. wagon: yeah... and most the guys were like that. Like asking for pictures of me, and if I liked cuddling/kissing/etc. It was just.. gross. I didn't do eharmony though cause I didn't want to pay for it. So I'm sure they people who go there are "higher quality"

I tried, mostly to get my mom off my back about not dating. It didn't work well. I didn't attract much interest, as I stated in my profile that I wasn't interested in a physical relationship right off the bat. The guys who DID show interest were over twice my age.

@mrbee: yes, it worked out really well for me because I was really impressionable in early college days. I think I could have / would have gotten into a lot of questionable relationships and situations. I was really able to figure out who I was and stop giving a crap about what others thought of me before I met Wagon Sr. I think this is probably why he's the only guy I've liked for more than 4 weeks. Before him, it was all about the chase... as soon as I got a guy to like me back, I'd lose all interest. When Wagon Sr. and I started talking/dating, it was about having an actual relationship and commitment.

I met my husband via an online dating site. I was actually looking forward to meeting and dating more people but unfortunately, he was one of the first people I met and thwarted my plans, lol.

I did Jdate- the Jewish dating site. DH was on it and I "looked at him" but he never looked back. I was so upset! But then when we dated I asked him about it and he said he was no longer active on it.
I only went on two dates. The first there were just no sparks. The second was the worst date ever. I said I wanted it to be casual, just coffee (want to keep it short in case I don't like them), and not on Valentine's day. So he set the date of for Feb 14th at a fancy restaurant. Should have just skipped it! He spent the whole time telling me he doesn't like black people, doesn't like adoption, I'm not a real Jew (I'm reform and he's conservative), doesn't like gay people, etc. And then he wondered why I didn't want to go out with him again.

@mrs. wagon: wow, I'm impressed. I understand going to college young and impressionable. It's wonderful that you were able to stick with that until your Junior year.
I have never done online or speed dating or anything. They all became popular more popular after Hops and I met in 2005.

All my dating was via the internet! My first boyfriend was a LDR for 2 years (we met on an online game). Then I had a few guys that I dated that I met through other dating websites. All, I discovered, were a-holes. Then after Christmas in Jan of 09, I decided to join eHarmony on a whim and met my DH after only 2 weeks of being on there! He had only been on 1 week! Sometimes I think I didn't get my 3 months worth of subscription, but I did find my hubby, so I guess it evens out.

When I first moved to NYC I was pretty lonely so I signed up for Match.com and Eharmony. Match was like a nightmare. I had so many guys basically treating it like an escort service. If they were actually serious about dating, the pictures were never accurate which is false advertising, especially if you gained 100 lbs and lost all your hair since the picture was taken. I'm not even that into looks - I care way more about personality, but I think that's a bad way to start off a relationship with a blatent lie. Its like a huge elephant in the room no pun intended.
Eharmony was better, but I only dated one person from that site and when it didn't work out I kind of lost my steam and closed my accounts. If I found myself single again today though I would definitely sign up for Eharmony, no question.

I've never tried online dating, but I didn't start dating until I was in college. I did consider online dating at one point because I felt like I was unattractive since all my friends had boyfriends or have been dating for awhile (since middle school!).

I met Papa Y through Match. I had started working second shift at a newspaper after grad school and just figured it was worth a shot since I would not be meeting many people with a schedule like that. It turned out being kind of ideal for me ... horrible as it sounds, I could weed out 90 percent of the men who couldn't spell and clearly didn't put any effort into their profiles.
One of my good friends met her husband through speed dating!

online dating though... not really. I listened to a lot of horror stories from coworkers in the past. I think people who meet their SO's online are lucky because there are a ton of weirdos on those sites!

@NYCaliMama: Maybe I'm in the minority, but I found it pretty easy to weed out weirdos by being super-selective from the beginning. I feel like there are just as many weirdos at any given bar, if not more!

@Red: I met DH online just as I was returning to the US after a few years abroad (in a country where the average man was probably 4 inches shorter than me), and I was totally looking forward to dating ALL THE BOYS. But then I went out with DH and thought "ok, well I'll see this through to its probable natural end and THEN I'll date ALL THE BOYS."
And now we are married.

I met one of my boyfriends on a message board, but I never met anyone through an actual dating website. DH & I met in college so it was pretty easy to meet people in real life at that point. Online dating seems a little contrived and nerve-wracking to me, as I watch many of my friends do it now. However, speed dating always looks so fun in the movies! DH & I joke that we should go speed dating together and pretend we don't know each other.
