On a typical night, we read some books to our 3 year old and then leave her to play until she is ready to be tucked in. She came out a few times last night and we sent her back, telling her to come get us when she was ready to be tucked in. We checked on her around 9pm and she was fast asleep, having tucked herself in. It was adorable....and sad that she didn't need us!

My DD (23 mos) apparently asks to take a nap when my Inlaws have her! I've yet to have that experience though lol. She's still In the crib so they just plop her in and off she goes. Yes, I'm bitter about it! She barely naps for us anymore!

Not quite the same but DD would come in my room if she woke at nigh to pee to tell me and ask me to put her back to bed - one night I heard her but she never came in my room -I checked the monitor and she was chatting away as she climbed in bed and got her dolls where they needed to be and then covered herself and went to sleep - I was both so sad and so proud of her at the same time!

He's put himself back to bed after getting a drink of water (we leave a cup on his dresser) or turning is turtle on (it projects light onto the ceiling and plays music).
The only time he puts himself to bed is when he is at Grandma's house! But she keeps him so busy that he is exhausted by the time bedtime rolls around and he asks to go to bed.

When DD1 was younger, instead of fighting her to get to sleep, we used to just let her read books and she would pass out on her own.
DD2 is always up for a nap LOL She will lay down in the most random places if she has her blankie with her.

My 2-year old has to be put in her bed, but she puts herself to sleep. She pretty much tells us when she is ready, and we put her in her crib and walk out. She likes the alone time and the chance to wind-down in peace.

Last time my mom was babysitting, she was reading stories to my son and he said "no more book, I go in bed". He's never done that for me though.
