Hey guys
Anyone have any idea how long levels can take to go back to 0 after a d&c? I was 11 weeks, so I'm guessing they were fairly high before the loss happened.

so sorry you're going through this.
I was 9 weeks when I had mine and it felt like it took forever to go down. I think it took around 6 weeks. I actually got AF and it was another week before my hcg was at 0. This was one of the roughest parts for me because I wanted to move on so badly, but each week I would go to the OB office to get blood draws and see pregnant women and it would upset me all over again

After my D&C, I think I took about 6 weeks for the HCG to totally leave my system.

Mine were 43000 at 7 weeks when I had my D&C. I took a pregnancy test about 4 weeks later and there was the faintest squinter of a line. I got my period 6 weeks after the D&C.
I don't know what my hcg was this time but all along the pregnancy it was low and not doubling. I took a pregnancy test 9 days after my D&C and it was negative.

I'm so sorry
I was 12 weeks and it took about 5/6 weeks to go down below 5

I was 10w and took the medication instead of a D&C and it took 7.5w for me to get my period back. Sending you lots of hugs

I had a natural miscarriage at 8 weeks but had strong numbers during my pregnancy. I think it was about 4 weeks before they were below 5. It was an odd feeling, I wanted them down so I could try again but each time they dropped it was a punch in the stomach as my baby slipped further away from me. It's a no win situation. I did get my period back about 5 weeks after my miscarriage started though.

Thanks ladies. I just want this to decline and finish off... it's so strange having no baby, but showing positive.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Mine took forever to go down - almost 8 weeks. That being said, my D&E was incomplete and I bled that entire time until I passed tissue. Once I passed it, the hcg dropped immediately. Definitely not the norm, and hopefully yours drops much faster!

@ValentineMommy: Oh no, you poor thing. Did you need a second d&c, or just wait it out?
pomelo / 5791 posts
@jaguar: I didn't, thankfully. They brought it up almost weekly, but told me as long as my HCG was coming down by 50% each week, that it could be avoided. I ended up having a follow up ultrasound at the very end of 7.5 weeks because my bleeding became VERY heavy (my HCG level was at 101 at that time). It was confirmed as a period (I had no idea that could happened with HCG left in my system, but it was definitely a different type of blood) and at the end of it, my body essentially flushed everything (including the remaining giant piece of tissue) out. My next HCG test was at 1.2 (negative). It was literally the longest 2 months of my life. It's been 3.5 weeks since I stopped bleeding and I'm now impatiently waiting for my period to come back. I never thought I'd be WANTing to bleed ever again

I hear you! I'm in the STOP BLEEDING SO I CAN START BLEEDING phase right now, haha.
Going to GP today and will ask her to do a blood draw just to see where my levels are at. It's been 8 days since the d&c.

@jaguar: Hey...I finally got around to checking-- it took almost exactly 1 month for my levels to go from 24,300 MMC @11 weeks to 20 (after my first D+C). And I got my first period about 6 weeks post-D+C.
ETA: I wish it were possible to predict how the next few weeks/months are going to go, so that I can start really planning... I'm pretty sure my HCG levels were higher this time...but it was also earlier and I think they "got it all" this time, hence less bleeding.

@FliegepilzHut: I feel like, among other things, the waiting is one of the worst parts. Because mine took so long, I felt like there was no light at the end of the tunnel for much longer than I would have expected. I hope it happens quickly for you so you can move on!
pomegranate / 3533 posts
@ValentineMommy: The waiting is pretty awful, but I'm feeling pretty optimistic so far. I'm so sorry that your post-D+C course was as prolonged and (it sounds like) miserable as it was. I hope the rest of your recovery goes smoothly and you can try again as soon as you're emotionally/physically ready!

@FliegepilzHut: Thank you! It definitely was miserable. 8 weeks of bleeding, with only pads.....UGH. Lol I'm impatiently awaiting af's arrival (hopefully any day now) so we can ttc this cycle!

@ValentineMommy: So, how do you know you are at 0? My OB didn't order bloodwork. Is it when you get your first AF post D & C?
pomegranate / 3533 posts
@simplyfelicity: I think usually they will do at least 1 draw, to make sure that it's trending down nicely (if not, you would be concerned for retained POC). But at the end of my last m/c, my OB actually had me do a HPT (which, if negative, may as well be "0").

@ValentineMommy: Wishing you lots of then! Will you use OPKs or temp (if you don't mind me asking)?
pomelo / 5129 posts
@jaguar: My MC was natural, not a D&C, but I think it took 4-6 weeks (I was 8-9 weeks along).
The waiting and not knowing WTH was going on with my body was worse for me than any of the physical stuff. Major ((HUGS)) to you as you wait this out.
pomelo / 5791 posts
@simplyfelicity: I had a positive opk 12 days ago! I started feeling all sorts of weird cramps, like painful ones, and getting mucous. I took an opk and it was positive. My situation is weird though. I bled for 8 weeks post D&E total. It was starting to taper off, then around 8 weeks the blood got, well, heavy and weird. It seemed like a period, when before it definitely didn't. I started bleeding heavier and heavier then passed a giant piece of tissue (not a clot). I freaked out, went to the ob and had an ultrasound. They confirmed it was my AF, even though I had never officially stopped bleeding and still had HCG in my system (they were checking them weekly because of all the bleeding I was having). The AF pushed out the remaining tissue and I finally stopped bleeding. Approx 2.5 weeks later is when I got the O pains and the positive test. Hopefully af is coming any day now. Sorry if that was the longest answer in the world!

@FliegepilzHut: I don't mind! We are using OPK's and are trying out preseed this time around. We got pregnant on the first try with our son AND our m/c. We were very lucky in that sense. I'm terrified of not getting pregnant quickly again and what that will do to my extreme anxiety.
And you're right about the HCG dropping. They told me the slowest rate they're ok with is a 50% drop each week. Mine was JUST at 50-60% each week, so it took FOREVER until that tissue came out. Then it immediately fell to 1.2 (negative)
pomegranate / 3533 posts
@ValentineMommy: Sounds like that's unlikely to be a problem. However, I know it's not uncommon to have a couple of weird cycles after m/c. OPKs should help with that!

Just found my HCG drop rate, if it helps anyone.
My HCG levels were:
June 5 (D&C) - 40,000
Approx 6/18 - 5,000+
Approx 6/25 - 1700
7/2 - 758
7/9 - 270
7/16 - 101
7/23 - passed tissue HCG 13
7/25 FINALLY stopped bleeding.
7/30 HCG 1.2 Finally negative.

@FliegepilzHut: I hope so! I have an underlying fear of major fertility problems (I was adopted, my mom couldn't have children...even though that biologically has no impact on me, it mentally did somehow. Stupid anxiety) or that somehow the D&E ruined my insides somehow. I'm just an anxious mess I am starting to have cramping though, so I guess that's a good sign!
pomegranate / 3533 posts
@ValentineMommy: I'm extremely hopeful for you! Be kind to yourself, even if it were to take a couple of months...
pomelo / 5791 posts
@FliegepilzHut: Thank you!!! Your support means a lot! It's so hard to take it easy on myself....I'm so mad at the inability to "control" my own body, if that makes any sense. It should do what I want it to!
pomelo / 5791 posts
@FliegepilzHut: I'm a perfectionist as it is and my need to control things has always been a personal issue. Of all things, I should be able to control my own damn body....but nope.....insert angry face smiley here. lol
pomegranate / 3533 posts
@ValentineMommy: At least you acknowledge that you (we) are not the one(s) in control. From one frustrated (and perfectionistic) lady to another...sometime that the hardest part. *insert anguished grin/scowly face*
pomelo / 5791 posts
@FliegepilzHut: I acknowledge it. I just really, really don't like it. lol

@FliegepilzHut: That's really good advice-- thanks! I will hit up the dollar store in a couple of weeks.
cantaloupe / 6634 posts
@ValentineMommy: No, you were super informative! It sounds like, despite all that your body has put you through, you are getting "back on track."
pomegranate / 3764 posts
@FliegepilzHut: Frustrating. I hope this time is faster. x
@MaryM: I agree with you - I always have a bunch of 'what ifs' with my cycle... PCOS does that to ya! But this is worse. I just don't want to be broken forever.
@ValentineMommy: That is really helpful - thank goodness you managed to finally flush things out. That must have been an agonising wait.
@Adira: Hugs. Thank you chick. x
@simplyfelicity: I'm peeing on el cheapo sticks every few days to see what's happening (haven't had a blood draw yet) - and it's lighter again today.
pomegranate / 3764 posts
Top stick was Tuesday. Bottom today (Friday). Definitely getting lighter. Wish i had taken a photo of last week's one - they were even. So at least they're dropping. It's bittersweet.

@jaguar: Yeah, it's almost completely gone. Definitely getting lighter, which is good. But still so sad.
cantaloupe / 6634 posts
@jaguar: That is definitely progress! I'm sort of afraid to POAS...not sure why.
