MIL keeps calling DS "my baby". "How is my baby?" "I need a picture of my baby." It's driving me nuts! Call him your grandson. He's my baby, not yours crazy lady!

Haha my MIL calls E "our" baby. Like "How is our baby doing today?" She doesn't do it with her other grandsons...I think because she was in the room when he was born she feels he's partly "hers".

I would respond "Here's DH you can ask how your baby is doing youself" or make a comment on how DH hasn't reallt changed much so you aren't sure why she needs a picture of him, LOL

My mom did this exactly once.
She asked "how's my baby?" and I told her I was a bit tired, but overall, I was fine. Kind of cranky because I got my period and could she get me some tampons because I'd run out?
Check and mate. She never did it again.

This seems to be a common problem... I wonder if my MIL will be calling our children "my baby".
@mrsmenow: hahaha!!

@mrsmenow: bahahha love this! Too bad my MIL refers to my daughter as "my ____" and says her name. Her name isn't Emily but as an example but MIL will get on skype and say thing "Hi My Emily", "How is my Emily doing??". The sound of her voice when she says it is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

@mrsmenow: @Mrs. Jump Rope: LOVE! I don't know if I have the balls for this method, though

I totally just told her that her baby was at work and probably having a good day since it's Friday.
Thanks for that suggestion! I love it!

DH's sister calls R her princess, her baby, etc. drives me crazy. DH doesn't get why I get so upset, he says not like she thinks it is her kid. Um she calls her, her baby!!!

@boiledpnut: OMG what did she say? I would probably die of laughing so hard after saying it!

I love the responses on here! I think the "my" part would go over better with the word 'favorite' inserted-- How's my *favorite* baby?
Whenever I read these I always think back to the last time I asked my sister about my nephew, but I also say things like "how's my favorite toddler?" or "How's my godson", not how's my baby. He is my favorite toddler, just not my toddler.

@mrsmenow: She said I got her with that one. Wonder if she got the hint!

This is sooo common! I know MIL does this. I've kind of learned to brush it off, but I also think I tend not to respond directly when she asks questions phrased this way. I just keep telling myself it's because she loves them so much.

Hmm, I guess I'm the odd one that doesn't find it annoying, but sweet... To me, it shows how much the person loves her

@Mrs. Jump Rope: That's what I do too! I haven't even given birth yet but every time I talk to my dad he asks "how's my baby girl doing?", and I answer with how I am doing even though I know he's referring to the the baby in my belly.

So much hilarity in this post!
It doesn't bother me when my mom does it, but it does when MIL does it

@swurlygurl: That's the thing about MILs, eh? My mom "gets away" with a lot more than my MIL in terms of annoying me.

My MIL refers to my as yet unborn baby as "our baby" and it drives me insane already!!

My MIL does it too. She has admitted that she should stop because it isn't her baby. But she still does it. At least she knows its annoying without me having to tell her.

MIL does this, drives me nuts. Can't say anything because she is way over sensitive.

@MamaMoose: lol... Your comment about nails on a chalkboard rings so true with me. Everytime my MIL says "my love" to my LO I cringe!
