Once in a while my son will somehow crawl/scoot and bang his head on his crib in his sleep. And then cry and not fall back asleep on his own. Any suggestions? He's 7 months.

I don't have any help, but I remember I used to babysit for a baby that would rock back and forth on all fours and bang his head on his crib in a way to soothe himself to sleep. It was horrible to watch/listen to! But his parents said that was just what he did. I can't imagine trying to deal with it now.
Good luck and hope you find some answers

Here's an option but it's quite pricey:
I actually got these crib wrap rail guards that are slightly padded but isn't low enough that a baby could suffocate from sleeping on the highest level on their crib. At least my son's crib's highest setting isn't that high. And it helped when my oldest was teething. It also helped prevent hard bumps on his head when he sat up and fell back down.

Hmmm thanks! It doesn't happen often, but I feel bad when it happens!

Brennan has done this before and I just get him and comfort him until he falls asleep again. I try and watch him on the baby monitor and when he gets too close to the rails I gently scoot him towards the middle of his crib.

@littlek: We don't have a video monitor so I only learn of the head banging after the fact : (

LO did this occasionally, but most of the time she would whack her arms or legs or get them stuck in the slats. We use bumpers now. I know their not recommended, but she's a wild woman in her sleep!

It's another phase that he'll grow out of! DD did this and it was so violent, scared me half to death. I asked my pediatrician and she said that they don't have the strength to do serious injury to themselves even though it seems like they are doing it so hard. DD didn't wake up from doing it, though. If he's waking up, I would probably try @erwoo's suggestion of padding.
