I'm kinda confused about this. What happens to you health insurance payments while you are away on maternity leave? My job isnt going to pay me while I am off, so what happens to my health insurance. Am I still supposed to make payments towards it? I know I have to call my insurance company up to find out their policy but just wondering what you ladies did

My job will allow me to continue my benefits while I'm out on unpaid leave, but they will send me a bill after a month off without pay and I will have to pay the cost of those benefits.

You should talk to your HR or Payroll department. You will most likely either have to pay your portion beforehand or have them take out excess after (and most will want a prepay since they have no guarantee of your return post-baby.) Bring it up when you are filing FMLA paperwork (if you are doing that.)

Oh I see... I'm not filing FMLA paperwork because my company is small and spread out across the country so they dont meet the size requirements. I will have to talk to HR then before I leave.

yup! need to talk to the HR. i know when i was handling payroll for a small company, and one girl went on maternity leave, she gave us a check for the amount due while she was gone.
