Help! I guess I'm not asking the right question. HOW do I use my coconut oil? Not what do you use it for. I got a 100 oz tub but it's so freaking solid and I don't want to dig it out with my fingers. Do you heat it up to use it on skin and stuff? It would be cool to put it in a tiny tub that I can put in my purse or something but I am totally clueless!

I scrape a bit with the topside of my nail and then rub it into my skin and it dissolves quickly and works well. I don't scoop it INTO my nail where it would get trapped in the concave area

It melts at 70-something degrees, so it'll melt in your hands. If you don't want to scoop it out with your fingers at first, a spoon should work!

They make these things called spoons!
but really you can put it in the bathroom while you shower and it'll loosen up. Or put it in a hot water bath. I portion mine out all the time!

It is a little bit of a hassle. The consistency also is weird feeling to me. I thought I would use it for so many things. but those two things have held me back.

I use a little spoon. It melts almost immediately on contact with your skin. I've scooped it into little tubs I got at a beauty supply store and then set it in warm water to even it out.

Take about a cup of it and put in a bowl and then use a hand mixer to whip it until it is light and fluffy (this works super well in a stand mixer if you have one), then store it in a small jar. The consistency is much better this way. You can add a few drops of scented oil if you want it to smell like something other than coconut.

We just started using it and our method so far is to put it in front of the space heater during bath time, which melts some of it into a liquid that is then super-easy to handle.

Depending on the temperature in our room, sometimes its softened and sometimes I need to use the top of my nails to scrape some out but it melts quickly in the palm of my hands. I've also scraped a bunch into those small travel lotion containers and leave that in the bathroom during my shower. By the time I am done showering, the steam in the room has warmed it up and I just squirt it out to use. Love coconut oil!!!

Make sure your little container is leakproof. I put some in a little container to use when I was pumping and it got warm and leaked all over my desk; I'm glad it wasn't in my purse or pump bag at the time.

i use a little rubber bowl to scoop some out, let it melt and shave my legs with it. also do this to use it as eye makeup remover and moisturizer.

@purrpletulips: Yes! I carry some in our diaper bag, but even using a "leakproof" container, I wrap a baby washcloth around it and put the whole thing in a Ziplock bag. It ALWAYS leaks, no matter what.
