Do you need the volume turned on? I put my phone on silent but my alarm still sounds in the morning.

I am guilty of texting early!

do u reply when she texts at those time? i think ignoring it consistently will cease the behaviour. i had someone in my family who use to call at inapporiate times. i answered the phone once at 2am because i was actually up, then she did it 2 more times (it was when she was living abroad in a different time zone), so i stopped answering and she stopped calling.

and can u also set your texts to mute or vibrate so u don't get woken up?

Wait till 7 to reply and then say "yeah, sorry I don't look at my phone until after 7"

Maybe she will get the hint?

@Mrs Green Grass: i think on the do not disturb setting, there is an option that if the same number calls twice in a row, it will ring.

@Mrs Green Grass: that is really annoying. i would also tell her that she woke up you, your DH, AND LO. and your DH was pissed (blame it on him).....and then set a concrete rule - NO texting or calling before 9am.

Ugh, at this point it seems like what more can you do than just block her number? I know that seems extreme, but seriously, you've talked to her in person and told her it's a problem. You don't respond. It makes me wonder if she's doing it passive aggressively now that she knows you don't like it. Either that or she's ridiculously oblivious...

Side note -- I also HATE getting super early texts about stupid stuff. I am a terrible sleeper and once I'm up, it's so hard to go back to sleep. Recently my SIL (who I already am not a huge fan of...) texted my husband at 4:30 a.m. The sound freaked out our cat who accidentally used my face as a spring board and scratched me really bad. I still have a scar and I feel pissed off every time I see it!

I'd ignore it too as not to encourage this behavior! I don't know what else you can do if you already talked to her face to face about it once!

I'm non confrontational....& I also turn my phone on vibrate & turn the blocking mode on before I got to bed so I never know if someone tried to contact me. If you call 3 times in a row within 5 minutes the blocking mode will turn off & the calls will come through in case of an emergency but that rarely happens & I like to sleep.

I'd ignore the message indefinitely via text and the future ones. The next time you see her I would verbally remind her that you asked her not to text you that early morning and you would appreciate it if she would start doing it as of now. I would cease communicating with her via text. Just take that communication form out completely.

I am totally guilty of texting early! But to answer the question, just block her.

I would send back a joking but not really type text. Something like, "OMG girl, I swear I am going to have to block your number if you don't stop texting me at 6AM! I keep my phone on at night for emergencies, not questions about re-financing my student loans! LOL. But seriously...be a friend and stop texting me before 8am, ok?"

I would probably just go off on her until she got it. No joke. Texting or calling anyone at that hour for a non emergency is absolutely ridiculous.

Gosh that's early! I would totally just ignore it.

@Mrs Green Grass: I had a MAJOR problem with my FIL texting at inappropriate times, and it annoyed the PISS out of me (he'd do it at 1,2,3am etc). We complained, he still did it, and I know you can put your phone on do not disturb or other options, but I'm like you and wanted other people to get in touch with me for legit emergencies. I know on iPhone you can block specific people, and I ended up telling him that Harper had a rough night, and I put her in bed with me, and that it took ages to get her settled down and right when she finally fell asleep, he texted and woke her up. Not an entirely true story, but I basically said, "If you are going to keep texting at times like that, I'm going to have to block you. Unfortunately that means, I can't receive or send anything from you or to you, including photos of LO, but I just have to have my phone by me for emergencies, and so it's not what I want to do, but it's what I'll have to do to avoid this happening again when I have to go to work the next day."

That worked. If I were you, I would tell her that you just got D asleep next to you, he had a crappy night, and were hoping to get a few more minutes of sleep since you'd been up with him so much, and she woke you both up. I would be really nice and just say, "I don't want to sound too harsh, but you are the only one that ever texts that early and if you have to text me at hours like that, I just want to give you a heads up that I have to block you so I may not ever see your texts anymore."

I think in this day and age, it's just as inappropriate to be rude in technological interactions as it is in person, so it really has to be addressed. Plus it would just irk me to let her off the hook for something so....pointless and annoying.
