I have both, but I voted for the Beco. The Butterfly II does have a panel between mom and baby, but that's why I think it's slightly better. It make back carries SO easy! I don't feel any less snugly. You can do back carries in the Ergo.

BTW, I think the Butterfly is no longer being produced, but it was replaced with the Soleil... I think. I don't know the pros/cons of the Soleil.

@wheres_c: why did you hate the beco?

I've never used an ergo so I can't speak for the comfortability - however I do know you need an infant insert so that's another piece to purchase. You back back wear in both carriers.

I have the beco and love it! It's really comfortable, love all the designs/patterns and no, it doesn't have a hood but it has a flap that pulls up if they fall asleep and I just take an A&A blanket and draped it over his head when he slept in it.

Yes, the only downside for me personally is that there are no pockets on it!

I have the Ergo Sport and love it! Super easy to use for both front and back carriers and very comfortable. It's also really easy to drop the waist and use the hood for nursing!

ETA: LO hate outward carries in my other carriers. He gets overstimulated easily and the Ergo allowed him to hide and feel more secure. He adores the back carry with it though because while he is still facing in the same direction as me he can still head against my back.

When you get back from vacation you can try out my Ergo if you want. I have a spare infant insert that's yours if you want it. Though I think L doesn't need it anymore.

No, you definitely won't need the infant insert. My LO didn't need it after about 2.5 months. My husband and I both use our Ergo, and we love it. However, since it's getting to be summer soon, I'd recommend getting a lighter colored one. Ours is the navy blue, organic, and I think it's going to get hot in the sun.

I was really torn too on this before. But what swayed me to get the Ergo over the Beco was that DH could and would wear the Ergo too (so he says) for when we travel. He also liked the hip/waist support when we went to try them on. I also like the pocket in the front for stashing things and the hood/cover. I was worried about the bulk, being kind of short, but now that I have it, I like the additional support and structure.

Haven't tried the Beco personally, but I did like the slimness and designs of it. My GF has one though and she loved it till her LO was about 6 months I think - then she thought he was too heavy for her to wear him in it. If DH weren't going to use the carrier and I had tried it on, I might have gone with the Beco. Both seem to be pretty good! I think the deciding factors would be more about how you want to use it.

I have a manduca carrier, which is similar to the ergo but it comes with an infant insert already and the straps are narrower which I great for me as I am a smaller frame.

Based on the design of the two I would say ergo!

@shopaholic: she was almost fourteen pounds at seven weeks and over two feet long. I tried cramming her in there, but she much preferred being without!
