So for dd's birthday in May I've decided to spruce up her play area. Unfortunately she doesn't have a whole room - this is a smallish area behind our couch approximately 5'x7'. I was *thinking* of putting a book display along the back (blue) wall, her PBK-esque chair in the corner, and a toy chest or SOME sort of storage along the side (greige) wall, but suck at doing this stuff, so I would love suggestions.
ETA: the jolly jumper and exersaucer will be disappearing before her birthday.

We are planning a play area for part of a room right now too. I just saw a really cute small book nook/ reading corner idea to encourage reading. I love Ikea ledges for displaying books. If you are on Pinterest (or even just check Google images) there are tons of really cute ideas for playrooms.

We have picture ledges for our books but we made them, it adds a lot of color to the area with the books being displayed and saves space!

We also just have a nook for his play area. It's tough in a small space! I really like your ideas though. 
This is B's play space. I'm starting to run out of room!

Change of plans I guess. After talking to dh we think it might be better to get a kids table and chairs so she can have a little arts and crafts area, as well as toy storage... This is hard!!!

There is so much you can do! I would definitely add some storage but we also love our little table and chairs.

@NurseMommy: could you still do a reading nook on half of the blue wall and a table/chairs on the other? You could get a basket to keep books in or get the IKEA spice racks to put on the wall (they are smaller than the picture ledges, but work better in the space?) Or could you still do your reading area/bookshelves along the wall and put the table along the couch?
