I don't have any answers since DS kept DH and I up all night. I should be sleeping. Not sure if this helps since we are formula feeding but right now to help with his painful gas we are...

Burping him frequently like after every oz he takes.
Using Dr brown bottles and nipples.
Moving his legs and making him do bicycle exercises.
Trying gripe water and gas drops
Holding him in the football hold with his tummy against our arm and arms and legs hanging down.
Laying him down flat to nap/sleep instead of incline in the RnP that DD sleeps in.
Laying him on his stomach to get him to arch his back to get the gas out.
During feedings making sure his head is above his stomach.

As you can tell, DS has been quite uncomfortable the last few days and I've Google and tried everything. DS has been asleep for the past hour without waking up. So far success.
We are seeing the Ped today for their 3 month appt so I'll see if she suggests anything else.

We have to burp midway through the bottle, sometimes more than that. Sometimes when my ds does that he has to poop too.

Sounds normal for that age. In my experience bottles aggravate gas, but there's not much to do other than keep up with the burping and wait for them to grow out of it. Also, even with no allergy, some foods cause gas sometimes (my DD reacted that way to peas and cabbage at first) but I would think that kind of gas tends to show up after, not during eating.

I'll second @T.H.O.U.: about belly massages and bicycling legs... it does seem to help some!

@T.H.O.U.: We tried the massages a little. We got a paper on it when we saw the feeding specialized 2 weeks ago. I guess with the cloth diapers it's hard to get to his belly button area. Maybe I'll open up his onsie if he has trouble today. Thankfully, since I last posted he has been able to sleep and so have I.

ugh, baby gas and tummy issues. my first LO had what we thought was gas, and nothing worked (massages, leg bicycles, gas drops, gripe water, probiotics, frequent burping, dr. brown's and breaks in feeding...). people have given you good suggestions. my LO ended up growing out of it, but boy is it hard when you're going through it. to me it all sounds like normal stuff.

@bluestriped bee: The warm bath helped my LO a lot, especially if she was really having a bad gas attack. The water needs to be pretty warm (I did it warmer than her normal bath water, but of course not hot enough to hurt her at all!) and then would also rub her tummy area and groin type area to try to get things moving. But she would almost always have super big farts in the warm water, which she didn't have normally, and that would help her feel better!!

A lot of the normal solutions..bicycle exercises, warm baths, bottles, drops, extra burping..helped him pass gas, but he still always seemed uncomfortable. Ultimately, DS ended up with reflux and my dr. said a good sign of it is if you are trying to burp frequently and they still can't make it through a bottle with an arched back then it's a good chance it's reflux. I of course had to switch up my formula a million times before they would diagnose the reflux. Now he is on prilosec. But also, LO had colic.

In terms of exercises, I found that what helped him pass the gas more was tummy time, burping over the shoulder (and not on knee), warm baths, and doing sit ups (not bicycle legs).

@NovBaby1112: We gave DD gas drops with every feeding for the first 3 months of her life. Good luck!

A little update on my painful gassy DS... So we saw the Ped earlier yesterday and she suggested switching formula. We have a different situation in that our babies are on a formula for preemies (slightly more calories) and will be on this formula for a little while longer. So the Similac Sensitive formula is not the next alternative my Dr wants us to switch to. We instead switched our son to the Enfamil preemie (Enfacare) formula. (We were similac' preemie formula called Neosure. Well, DS will stay on neosure since I have a bunch of cans of powder formula in hand.)

Now I did give DS gas drops 30 minutes before giving him the new formula. But it's been over an hour and so far no painful gas. I guess I'll see how tomorrow goes. See if we have to keep up with the gas drops, too. Fingers crossed switching to another brand of formula works.

Oh, babies got their 2m vaccinations earlier today. They were fussy earlier today but 12 hours after they got their shots, it has been very quiet in my house.
I would think that if DS was still having the painful gas that it would wake him up. Vaccinations or not.
