I’m not sure it was the same process but one of mine failed the initial screen in the hospital but passed when it was repeated, not sure exactly what age though. I’m under the impression that the screens are not entirely accurate and that’s why they do further testing but I’m no expert. I hope you can find some peace while you wait, I know it’s hard not to worry!

We just went through this with our DS in November. He failed 2x in the hospital. He had a follow up screening at 6 weeks and easily passed. I was super nervous about it too, but none of the nurses or our doctor seemed at all concerned. They said a lot of babies fail initially and are just fine! Did they tell you when they’ll test again?

@helloperidot: DD3 failed the hospital screening and the first re-test at her pediatrician. We were referred to an audiologist, and she technically passed, but barely/with not great results, in one ear in particular. She was retested at her one year appointment and passed. Along the way, the doctors reassured me that it was probably a combination of her size and her (uncooperative) personality, haha. FWIW, she was early and super small (IUGR), and had a number of ear infections in her first year, but not enough to require tubes. She's three now, hears just fine, and does not get regular ear infections.
