So, Target has some curtains I really like on sale cheap right now. Problem... they're black. Our couches are charcoal gray. Our furniture is black. Our walls and carpet are beige. Ugh. The accent colors in the room are red and turquoises.
Is this too overpowering? Our house looks like a dorm room and I'm really trying to make it more like a home.

Those are gorgeous curtains, but I think you are having the same problem I am (except mine is all brown). I think you need some colour in the space. Maybe if you painted the walls, you coud get away with the curtains? Or even some colourful art on the walls?

@Grace: Unfortunately, it's a rental and we can't paint. Our landlord sucks. We're working on artwork.

I have the same curtains in light brown!!
I do think they're too dark for that room I'd hold out.

@zippylef: I love the pattern of the first set of curtains but I do agree that they would be too dark. I think the white of the second set would blend with the walls a lot. Could you go with a colored pattern instead?
Target has the black curtains you posted in a light blue. They might work.
ETA: Do you sew at all? I found a blog where she used table cloths for curtains and they look great!

@Sweet T: I do sew. I've been trying to find fabric that I like but it's hard to find thick enough fabric that doesn't look like an old lady's tablecloth.

@zippylef: I like that pattern a lot! I've also seen people use cloth shower curtains and it looks nice. I do think that fabric in the link would look great!

I would hold out and not go with the black. I think the first pattern would look great if it was in red and white/grey instead. Because you can't paint the walls, I would go with a bolder pop than the light blue.

PS They look slightly different because I added grommets to the top for easier sliding.
