All day and all night! And one of the nurses had the audacity to accuse our family of being the reason we couldn't get any sleep....um, not really!

Hang in there. Hopefully you'll get some real rest in your own bed very soon. I collapsed in my bed when we got home after 4days at the hospital...it was the best feeling ever!

Yes! And family and other visitors on top of that! I put the breast feeding sign up to help. Awkward moment-a nurse was in the bathroom with me checking me for hemorrhoids a few hours after having the baby and the on-call pediatrician walks in to give me an update on DS. I know he's a doctor, but still awkward!

Yes, I know they are just doing their job, but you still want to get some rest!

oh yes... i'm actually a hospital newborn photographer myself, and i feel so bad for some of the mamas. they look so exhausted and exasperated by the time i make it in there. my photography company only visits mamas on their second day during afternoon visiting hours, and we definitely don't just walk in and flip the lights! sorry you're not getting rest. maybe you can put mr. trike on guard!

Yep it was so annoying!!!

My hospital has "quiet hours" from 2-5 every afternoon in the recovery rooms where they turn all the lights down. The staff focuses on trying to be quiet and leaving patients in peace except for emergency situations and most moms and dads opt to send the baby to the nursery. It's nice to know that we'll at least have some peace each day that we're there!

I remember after the rush of having a baby had finally worn off, the crowd of well wishers had left and we were settled in for a while (she was born at midnight, this was now 3am) I finally drifted off to sleep, then boom "Prettylizy, it's time to feed her now, wake up." I wanted to punch that very well meaning nurse in the face! lol! After all the feeding and checking of everyone, we doze off again for a few minutes and then boom "It's time for Prettybaby's bath" (I sent DH for that one, I wasn't getting up!). Do we really need to give her a bath at 5:30am?

We spent all our time in the NICU with our LO so we missed all the visitors.

Totally agree with @Ash. It is a hospital, and not meaning to sound snarky, but frankly, it's not a hotel. If it's such a nuisance, talk to the staff about it and go up the chain of command as needed. talk to your nurse, the nurse manager, doctor, hospital administrator, etc. You always have the right to refuse vitals or visits from certain people, or even to leave AMA (against medical advice) if it's really a huge problem. I have had patients ask me to not come in so often so they can rest... I've also seen patients write their own signs on the door that state their privacy wishes. Communication goes both ways.

And no, it didn't drive me nuts if someone came to check up on me or tell me my baby was hungry or take their hospital picture. That's what I signed up for by choosing to give birth at a hospital.

I gave birth on the NHS, so I was in a ward with 5 other women. 6 women, 6 babies in a bay with nothing but curtains that could only be drawn at night. Visiting hours were from 8am-10pm, so there was always at least a couple husbands there during those hours. At night, the nurses did NOT disturb you unless it was an emergency though, which was nice.

When I was in labor, the nurses kept telling me to get some sleep and that they were leaving so I could get some rest. Then, they would be back 30 minutes later. It was so annoying! Recovery was a lot better. I remember being really mad that a nurse came in at 3:00am and wanted me to get up and go to the bathroom. I had been up since 3:00am the morning before and labored until I had a csection after 9 that night. I was exhausted. Ughhh...it was so great to go home!

Our hospital did have a family nap time, if we wanted it. It was only two hours a day, but it was a glorious two hours. From two to four the nurses would not let anyone in the room, no nurses would come, no visitors, nobody. It was sleep time!

We actually told our nurse it was ok to let a friend come but to tell him he had to leave soon..... well he was a little late and she never let him in. I felt bad that he came all that way and had to come back later, but it was such an awesome rest so I didn't feel that bad.

Yes. I had it a little worse because of my excessive bleeding. I had a nurse coming in every 45 minutes or so to push on my belly for the first 24 hours. I DESPISED hearing that knock at the door, knowing it was a nurse coming in to hurt me. Grrr. They finally left us alone our second night in the hospital and I think I fell asleep around 4am. Aaaaand..at shift change, the OB on call came in and woke me up to see how I was doing. I don't even remember what I said to her, I was so tired.

Mine did! But on the last day one of the nurses ignored it. Drove me crazy!

Annoying... Especially when we would just get the baby to sleep and a tech would come in to "check on us".
