When it comes to color I'm usually the first person to point out when something doesn't seem to be working 100% for whatever reason - too much grey, too much blue, etc. Well Mr. Bear had some left over paint from the other house that he decided to use on this house. It was a taupe brown like color that actually looked okay in the strong light of the upstairs. When he painted the first wall I told him I hated it. That it made it look flesh toned (which it did with one coat) and that it reminded me of a bandaid (which it kinda still does). But with more natural sunlight and the antique furniture we had, we thought it might work. And it did!
Until we started painting the downstairs. The plan had been to paint them complimentary colors. Have a lighter golden color downstairs that's light (since there isn't a lot of natural light) and have a few shades darker/richer shade of the same color for the wall going up the stairs and the hallway. I was thinking honey, caramel, warmth, depth, that sorta thing. But then Mr. Bear goes decides what we really should do is paint the downstairs a buttery color. The same buttery color we had used in P's nursery at the other house. A very classic Pooh Bear shade of sunny welcoming yellow. Which is the opposite of depth and warmth. It's just light and sunny and sentimental of something that I loved very much.
But you can imagine how badly the two colors clash. Like 70s tile clashing. It's awful. Can anyone help me find a complimentary shade to paint on top of one (or both!) of these painted walls? I'll take better pictures tomorrow but here's one to start! The lighter color is from Valspar and it's called Coconut Scent. Not sure what the dark color is called.
