I want to try it this weekend. Wondering if I should just put a little on puff or toast or what? Want her to get enough to see if allergic but don't want to give too much in case she is.

I put a little on part of his waffle. Not the entire thing because I didn't want to do too much either

Well E took a big bite of my PB sandwich when I was out of the room (I didn't think he could reach...) but we'd been planning on just putting a little bit on a bread quarter.

I just gave him a little bit on some toast. We also don't have any nut allergies in our family and hadn't experienced any allergic reactions with foods so that put me a little more at ease about it.

I think I just put it in his mouth. He is ok with it--doesn't really love it (no idea how he is my child, I pb!).

@dojo: Us either but I am still nervous.
@hilsy85: I love it too. I hope she does like it.

We were super not worried because we have no allergies in either family, so we just gave it to her on some bread and turns out she is allergic. I would have Benadryl ready to go and know the dose, just in case!

He loves waffles so I dabbed some on his waffle and waited. Didn't want to do it at any point afternoon or night in case he had a weird reaction later. We were good and I gradually introduced more thereafter!

On a ritz cracker in the dr office at her 12 month well check. We don't have any nut allergies in our family and I love it but was still very nervous.

There are two things that I have heard from parents of peanut allergic kids.
1) They would firstly put a dab on their skin and see if they would react to it before having them eat it.
2) They would give it to them in the waiting room or right before going to a doctor's appointment.

@brownie: I thought about the doctors office but someone
on here said what if there was a kid in the office with an allergy.

@Smurfette: if you gave it them in the car before and washed their hands if there wasn't a reaction, you should be fine. But close enough if there is a reaction.

I just put a little on my finger and had him eat that, then when he seemed fine we gave him a little more on bits of fruit (he hadn't had toast yet).

@woohoo585: same as you. I gave it to her in the parking lot at the doctor's office before our wellness check and she was allergic.

@Andrea: this is what I was planning to do. Did your LO have a bad reaction, did you have to rush her in? Peanut allergies scare the bejaysus out of me!

gave him a few bites of toast with pb. haven't tried since the first!

I gave her crushed up peanuts in spinach when she was LO e6.5 months old! I wasn't worried about it. Now she eats it on toast for breakfast.

@Aimed: she quickly developed a rash around her mouth and said her tongue felt funny. If an allergy exists, the doc said that the first exposure is not likely to be severe. It worsens with each subsequent exposure so my LO hasn't had any peanuts since. We had her allergy confirmed by an allergist after that.

DH gave some to K, I think just a little on his fingertip. And then he told me about it a week later that she had no reaction.

@Andrea: thanks for the info! I'm glad that your Lo's immediate reaction wasn't too critical.

@Andrea: I'm glad to hear that if an allergy exists, the first time there is a reaction usually isn't too severe.
I'm nervous to give my son peanut butter/peanuts and kinda almost just wish someone would do it for me without telling me so I don't have to over think it!

@Aimed: you're welcome and thanks!
@coopsmama: maybe your SO could do it?
cantaloupe / 6059 posts
@Andrea: Actually that's a great idea! I'm gonna tell DH that job is his.

@coopsmama - I felt the same way, but once we found out she really IS allergic I was so glad we did it ourselves before an unsuspecting aunt / grandma / friend gave her something with peanut butter in it without us knowing!

@.twist.: I might do this. Girlfriend loves her banana every morning.

@hilsy85: I'll probably do what you did and just put some in his mouth, especially since he's not eating finger foods yet!

@Smurfette: right! And then you've introduced her for the best snack of all time! Ha

I just put a little on my finger and kind of just put it in her mouth. We did this in the car before her 15 month check up in case she had a reaction (meant to do it at 12m appointment but forgot to).
