First baby, dh came home from work when labor started in earnest but we had a long time to go. So no big time worries even though he didn’t work close by.

Second, I was more worried about everything but figured I’d have another long labor. Nope, not long but it all happened at night so no worries on driving there, just childcare.

Third I was induced so no problem! It was a major perk to have no concerns about childcare or logistics.

Can you take an Uber/cab/etc if you’re worried about the timing? Then maybe you and dh could arrive at the same time? Or could he work remotely more often during that time?

I had 2 very rapid deliveries so I would have a backup plan in place.

With the first I drove! DH has had a couple drinks with dinner. We went home for a while and he drove home and then drove us back later when we went.

Second time I drove again. But I was at the doctor for something else and ended up with an emergency csection, so I wasn’t in labour.

i was/am very grateful that all 4 of my babies decided to begin labor in the late evening and were all born in the wee hours of the next morning, so my husband could drive us to the hospital. i'm especially thankful for #3 as she was delivered almost exactly 2 hours after my first contraction, so we definitely wouldn't have made it to the hospital if it had been during the work day.
perhaps you can have a few back up drivers lined up just incase? hope it goes smoothly for you!

This was a big worry of mine with my second. I took an Uber. Contractions picked up when I woke up in the morning. I was pretty sure it was the real deal, and since I'd had a fast labor with my first I decided not to wait. I took an Uber to the hospital while my husband took our older child to daycare. I walked around the hospital for over an hour once I got there to get things to pick up further before heading to triage, which gave DH a chance to arrive. But if things had accelerated more quickly, I wanted to be there...

First went into labour around 5am on a Sunday so my husband drove (we are about 45 mins from hospital).

2 and 3 were schedule c sections. If I went early And my husband was working I would have been screwed. Haha. He can’t leave work until someone is there to cover him... so near the end he had people on call that agreed to be available if anything happened. In that case a friend probably would have drove me in... with my third my previous section scar was very thin and they didn’t want me to labour on it at all so I wouldn’t have been able to wait for him to get home and then make the drive in.

With my first I had just returned from the hospital after a bleeding scare. They declared me fine and not in labor. As I walked in the door my water broke. DH drove me back to the hospital and I had J 2 hours and 2 minutes later.

With R I had a membrane sweep and did lots of walking and was achy. I woke up to blood and told my husband it was time to go (no contractions yet). My child care arrangements fell through, so we brought J to the hospital with us. Contractions started as I walked into the hospital. Baby was born 2 hours later, after maybe an hour of timeable contractions, about an hour after J's grandparents arrived to take him home.

With my first, I started labor early Friday morning but they weren't close enough to go to the hospital until Friday night. At that point, my husband was home to take me. Baby came early Sunday morning.

With my second, I started labor early Tuesday morning and had my mom take me in around noon. At that point, I was 4 cm and they gave me the option to leave and come back later. I went out and grabbed lunch, had my husband come get me, and we went back together around 3 pm. Baby came shortly after midnight.

I'm not so worried about #3 because I seem to just have long labors, but I'm most worried about child care since we no longer live near family. I can always take an uber to the hospital but I have to make sure the kids are buttoned down first.
