The answer to every question is NO, even if she means yes! I'm getting a bit tired of hearing NO. I've tried substituting Yes and realized Oui is easier for her to say but she still only says NO (and gives a frowning face) even if 2 sec later she is happily doing or eating whatever she said No too. LO is 17 months.

My Lo went through a no phase at around 16 months too.
Now no means no!
Before yes meant no too. -
@chopsuey119: I try not to say no to her a lot, though she did start swatting when she gets tired and that I give a very firm No but maybe I'll try something else. Did your LO just switch to saying yes without doing anything?

DH is really adamant about using words other than 'no' when talking to DS. It's hard. I feel like I tell him no a lot. But using, "stop" or "wait" works when he's squirmy or grabbing things he shouldn't. He's been making this, "up up up" sound lately and I think he's trying to say, "stop", haha...
We just try to switch it up so that he doesn't fixate on one word for "no", he's only 10 months so who knows if it will work! -
You could stop giving her the option to say no. For example instead of saying "are you ready to eat?" say would you like to walk or have mommy carry to to the table? Or do you want the meat first or the veggies first? My son very rarely says no. (though he did this thing in the car where he would wag his finger and say "no no no"). He doesn't have the choice of no most of the time.

@brownie: She wags her finger and says no no no too, I'm not sure where she got that from. When I give her a choice she just says no to both.

@Maysprout: if she's swatting I would say no hitting firmly.
We tried to say no only when we had to, and would pair it up with what she wasn't supposed to be doing.
No hitting, no biting, biting oww, hitting oww! (She knew what oww meant).
Eventually as her language skills developed she stopped saying no so much. She's 19 months old now. -
@rachiecakes: we did something similar and it worked! Lo is 21 mos and she rarely says no unless we ask her a direct yes or no question and she means it. She didn't really go thru the no phase.
We say...we don't Yell. Or not for eating. That's not safe. I don't like it when you xyz. Wait. We used No very sparingly. LO said Wait more than No.
