I took free classes at a YMCA when I was 5ish.
Are you going to put your LO in swim class or teach them how to swim yourself?

My dad taught me! We'll probably give LO formal swim lessons

I'm in Florida so we're surrounded by oceans and pools. But I never really took to the water. I hated swim lessons, I would just cry. And I ended up failing because I didn't want to dive. I can stay afloat by doggy paddle, but I'm not a strong swimmer at all.
So I will not be teaching LO how to swim! We'll start out with some mommy and me classes and she'll keep going as she gets older.

I took classes at the local swim center when I was around 4. I think LO will start a lot earlier!

Um. I can doggie paddle and float. I don't really know how to swim, but I want LO to take classes so she's not like her mama.

I can't remember how old we (my brother and I) were when we started, but every summer we took lessons at the lake in our town (and one year at the YMCA).

When I was about a year and a half old my aunt tossed me into the deep end of a pool (where my dad, mom, and uncle were waiting).

MY parents put in my swim lessons from the age of 4 and I kept at it until I was 16 and became a certified lifeguard. I REALLY appreciate their persistence in learning how to swim.

I took a swimming class at our community pool when I was 6 or so... I knew how to do underwater somersaults at that point, which made the instructor think that I knew how to swim. He was wrong. LOL. I'm pretty sure I almost drowned in the deep end.

I taught myself how to swim. I will probably teach the LO.

We belonged to a pool club from the time I was very young. I started swim lessons at 3 and swim team at 5 (which continued all the way through high school). We also spent a lot of time at the beach. I think it's really important to be a strong swimmer, just for safety sake. In fact, one of the colleges I toured at (Colgate I think?) requires all students to pass a swim test in order to graduate, which I think is awesome! Sadly, it comes from the fact that in the past two students passed away from drowning on campus and so their parents pushed the initiative.

We went to swimming lessons at the local pool but I hated it because they wre always early morning and the water was so cold. How I ended up being a good enough swimmer to be a lifeguard is a mystery to me!

We took swim lessons, not sure how early. I know we did swim team when we were young - like 7 or 8. We knew how to swim way before that. We were members of the local swimming pool and my Mom would take us every day during the summer. I loved having a teacher Mom!!

I also took classes at the Y. I don't think they were free though...
The daycare that we will have our baby at actually has a pool. All of the kids other than the ones in the infant room go in the pool, and they can take extra swim lessons too. We'll definitely enroll our little girl.

I don't really ever remember not being able to swim, our family has a lake house & my parents had a pool. I took classes as well but I don't know what age I started. I think my parents did a "parent & child" class & also taught me at home.

I learned at my aunt's pool via my dad. When my little brother was old enough, they enrolled us in swim classes the community center.

I grew up at the beach, but my mom never let us swim in the ocean (I never got in deeper than my knees until I was in college). Even now, the ocean creeps me out a bit, so I stick to the sand or swim in pools.
I didn't learn how to swim until the summer I was 8 years old. I had medical issues involving several surgeries when I was 5-7 years old. My aunt (who lived across the street from my grandmother) had a pool and I learned to swim there.

My older brother and I took free lessons somewhere when we were very young (I was 4 or younger). I'm thinking it was the YMCA. My younger brother didn't get lessons and didn't learn how to swim until high school. My dad is an awesome swimmer, though, so I'm not entirely sure why he didn't teach us himself.

We grew up in upstate NY on lake champlain and I remember knowing how to swim as far back as I can remember. I loved this yellow life vest that I had. I wore it all summer long. I practically lived in that life vest!

I don't know when but I do vaguely remember going to the community pool. So I think my older sister or her friends taught me and my younger siblings.

While I did take a class, I still basically only dog paddle and float.

My grandma took me to swim lessons at the YMCA all summer when I was about 6. I think we will try to get our LOs into swin lessons as early as possible.

***hiding**** I still can barely swim. I took lessons in high school but forgot almost everything. This summer I'm hoping my husband can re-teach me.
I think we'll start off with my husband teaching LO. He's a really good swimmer!

My sister and I took swim lessons for several years at the YMCA. I hated it because they wouldn't let me wipe my eyes when I had water in them and because I didn't like swimming the way they wanted me to with all the different kinds of strokes. I just wanted to swim underwater and come up when I needed air. I'm thankful my parents made me take the classes though and we will sign our daughter up for classes as well.

I was a fish when I was a kid. My babysitter had a pool and required all her charges to take swim lessons so dad took me to the Y when I was about 3. My parents got our pool installed when i was 4. Hubs was an all public swimmer in HS. We'll probably have our kids in the water asap but we'll do formal swim lessons too
