Job, family, etc?
I have always wanted to move away from my hometown. But after grad school I moved back in with my parents to save some money. That's when I met DH, and because his family lives so close he didn't want to move away. I didn't care enough to fight it. Thank goodness we still live here..... it makes life with kids so much easier if their grandparents are near

We wanted good schools, nice and safe town and neighborhood, and proximity to my family. It also happened to be the town I grew up in!

We just moved about six months ago. There were a lot of factors that went into our move, but the primary reasons we moved included proximity to our families, a wealth of career opportunities for both of us, and a safe, family-focused community.

We moved many states away from family, because of DH's job. My family lives in a dying town with no jobs, so the quality of life we have here would not be possible there. It is really hard being away from family though..... facetime makes it a little easier.

For us it was job and housing costs. We loved Maryland but couldn't afford a house up there so, I found a job in NC and we moved down here.

We moved to Texas because my Dh got a job here. I really love where we live now.

I moved to my current city for college, and stayed because DH has a good job here. I would looooove to move for my own career, but that's not an option at the moment!

We moved to our little town which is 3 hours away from our hometown because DH got an amazing job.
The town is very small so no matter where we move in town, it would just be because we wanted a new house.. Not really to be closer to anything because the whole town is close to everything in it. Lol.
The only thing if want to be closer to is the water. We are about 1km from it now but Id love to live right on the water one day!

We needed to live near an academic pediatric medical center and we wanted to live in close proximity to the mountains. We didn't want to drive hours to go ski/snowboard. We love where we live so much, even if it is a little hard to be away from family!

I moved to NY for work, met DH here and we have stayed. My family live in a different country so it would be rough for one of us either way.

It has been mostly DH's job that has picked our location so far. Though we wouldn't consider living somewhere that wasn't a really nice place to live regardless of the opportunity.

I moved to Chicago for graduate school and stayed. I met DH at the end of school. He moved here with an ex-girlfriend a couple of years before I did. We chose to stay here because we like the city and have a friend base as well. My parents live a couple of hours away which was the main appeal for me when I first moved here.

job - we live in the same town as DH's job and about half an hour from my job.
We hope to move into the city eventually because we like conveniences of city life. But finding a house in a safe part of town in a good district at what we can afford is next to impossible. The really sought-after parts of the city have little to choose from because if people get a house there they hold onto them!

Personal preference, really. I moved here for law school (but chose the law school based on its location, as it was where I wanted to practice law). We don't live near any family, but we love our city and don't want to leave at the moment. Luckily DH and I were able to find jobs here.

When I graduated school, DH (then boyfriend) and I built a house on his farm. So I followed because I could find a job wherever we are.

We googled, "Best places to live in the US", and picked Portland, Oregon. We loved the proximity to desert, mountains, the ocean, hiking, etc. We really miss our family, but I think we would have regretted staying in the midwest our entire lives.

DH and I both went to college here (his 'safety school', my top choice largely because I liked the city it was in). He stayed here after school and worked his way up to a good job, I moved closer to my family but eventually moved back here to be with him. I really like the city and find it more livable than where my parents live, but I do wish we were closer. Ultimately I had to decide to put our family unit's happiness above proximity to the rest of my family.
We are still in the city but will eventually have to figure out which burb we want to move to.

We both really like our hometown, plus both sets of grandparents still live there so that's pretty convenient =)

We have to be near family so there was only two choices. Ultimately the city we choice reflected the kind of childhood we wanted to give our children.

We live in the "city" because we both orginialy worked here. Now DH commutes to a smaller town that we will eventually move too as we want our kids to go to school there.
