Without going into explicit, mind-numbing detail, after 15 months of stress, we have decided to rehome one of our two dachshund mixes. Neither love our LO, but the one to be rehomed shows the more aggressive behavior. He must go to a home without children.

I know our local rescue group will let you come on the weekends to their events to let you try to rehome and adopt the pet out (they won't take them in though). It's the best way because they will do home visits and you get to meet them and get a "feel" for them.
It's a tough thing -I was really worried about one of my rescues, but thankfully she has done amazing My sister gave her dog to her MIL after he snapped at my nephew. You have to do what is best and safest!

Try contacting a local rescue group. I would highly advise against rehoming on Craigslist ... So many horror stories :T

I also recommend contacting a rescue group. Try for breed specific as well (we did dachshund rescue for our mix) and they put posts up on their Facebook page. Our sweet girl (she spontaneously got an extreme health condition that led to instant blindness and need for removal of her eyes) was able to find a home with a family who devotes their lives to dogs in need. It was a very tough decision but she does great at her new home (I FB friended her new mum). Good luck!

I originally got her from a rescue group and I contacted them. I would also ask around at the vet's office.

We were trying and found it very hard (and gave up). Ours is a rescue and they don't take dogs back. The vet was a blank. I've heard of a few online sites maybe petfinder?

We did use craigslist. I was cautious and picky about who I even emailed back before having anyone meet her. After emailing back and forth about everything I could think of about the dog and why we were rejoining her, and the potential new family, they came to meet her. They met her, we discussed and they returned several days later to take her home. I was wary but it was a good experience for us.

We used Craigslist to *find* a pup to rehome. We submitted a "want ad" with a description of ourselves and the dog personality we were hoping to find. Our dog's previous owner (who hadn't put up his own Craigslist ad) contacted us saying he had the exact pup we were looking for. We met up at a neutral spot (a dog park), and the rest is history. She's been with us for over four years now. I wouldn't completely write off Craigslist. We tried visiting shelters first, but we were having trouble finding the right fit. Our Craigslist ad allowed us to connect to someone with just the dog we needed!

I'm so sorry this is the situation you're facing. It's stressful. I know a handful of friends who have had to deal with this once a baby arrives b/c the dog is miserable from anxiety and cannot be trusted around the child. They seem to have had the best luck by putting the word out amongst friends and rehoming through word of mouth. In a more urgent situation, I'd look for a breed specific rescue that fosters dogs until they are placed in homes. I'd also check with the vet for ideas. Good luck.

We got a dog that needed to be re-homed due to a divorce (new apartments wouldn't allow dogs). It was a friend of a friend. Have you tried reaching out to friends/co-workers to see if someone in your extended network would be a good fit?
