I am always amazed at some of the detail in birth stories. My whole l and d experience was less than 3 hours AND med free and there is still so much I don't remember at all and have to ask DH about.

I wrote it down in as much detail as I could as soon as I had a chance, and if anything was fuzzy I asked DH, my mom, MIL or FIL.

Mine was only 4 days ago and already my memory of it is fading quickly. I had to ask my DH for a lot of the details, but there were definitely parts of it that are clear in my memory.

I'm lucky, because my sister-in-law delivered LO...so that helps with some of the minor details (like how many contractions I pushed for) but for the most part, i remember everything (like how DH read life and style to me, because the epidural put me to sleep...or how when I held LO for the first time, I almost threw up on her (luckily, DH grabbed her and I threw up on the floor-I couldnt find my vomit sock).

My friend gave me a blank notebook while I was pregnant, and I jotted notes down-- pregnancy milestones, name ideas, etc. I packed it in my hospital bag and we wrote down things while I was in labor (I was induced, so we had a lot of time). Things like when I started my pitocin, when the OB broke my water, when I got the epidural, what I ate, etc.
Of course we stopped writing when things got serious around 3am, but then we jotted down what we could remember as soon as I got settled in to my postpartum room (and had a real meal and a nap!).

@travelingbrit: It was a plastic barf bag...looked a little like a condom, but everyone called it a vomit sock!

I wrote it down immediately after I got home from the hospital.
