We have two sweet/spoiled dogs at home - used to getting attention from us all day. How did you prepare your pets for the new baby?

We didn't really prep our pup. He knew something was up because he would whine when we were getting the nursery together.
He reacted with lots of pouting and running out of the room if the baby was crying! They are buddies now!

My husband brought home a receiving blanket our son used. Our dogs plopped on the blanket and was smelling my husband's shirt. They were so excited. When we brought him home, they were ecstatic! They have been nothing but sweet to him. Wherever my son is, our dogs are.

My parents took a blanket that we had wrapped M in home with them when we were still in the hospital. They ignored it. They were VERY excited to meet their new family member. They get really excited when she cries, I think they want to help or just want someone to make it stop. One dog wants to lick her all the time, the other ignores her. It works.
Your pups pics are adorable.

Cheetos cat got a little stressed with her constant crying. Lately he's been kinda jealous and always wants to lay on me when she's on me. He's a super cuddly cat though so maybe he just wants to join the cuddle pile!

DH brought home the beanie that was out on LO immediately after birth for our dog to smell. Not sure if he remembered to let him smell it or not but our dog has adjusted well. He looks at her then just walks away to play with toys!

@photomommy: Dogs are usually very sweet towards children! Your dogs are stinkin adorable btw!! I love the style of photography used on them
Oh and also, our cat ignores him for the most part! She has shown a bit more curiosity towards him, but other than that, she keeps her distance.

i love this thread! reading about how dogs get so excited to meet the baby reminds me how much i love my dog and can't wait for our little family to grow.. will definitely use the tip to bring home something of the baby's for the dog to sniff first.
