I found some on sale and am thinking of buying ahead for next year but I'm not sure if they run big or small?
Also are they really thin enough to wear in the carseat but warm enough for New England winters?

They run true to size and definitely do NOT run big at all. We found the same to be true for North Face jackets. If anything they may run a tad smal
I live in the Seattle area so our winters are super mild so we don't have a crazy thick jacket. She can wear it with her car seat but I don't know that the 2 jackets we've had would be warm enough for the NE - at least not without a ton of layering which wouldn't work with the car seat.

I find that they run true to size. Like sandy, I also live in the PNW so they are perfect for the mild winters here. I would need to pair it with a shell for east coast winters.

@hellobeeboston: Yes at REI - only $48 for some colors, which I feel like is a steal / I don't usually see them on sale. I think I'm going to buy a few in neutral colors so DD can wear and hand down to DS. Don't buy them all please

@HappyBaker: oh that is a great deal!! Thanks for sharing. My 2 year old toddler is in 2t/3t now. Wondering if 4T will work for next year?

Pretty true to size.
We live in Maine and my son wears it for to and fro. And wears in car seat. But if he is playing outside in the snow or something he has a thick llbean parka.

@winniebee: Thanks, that's what I was thinking!
@hellobeeboston: Same, DD is 2.5 and in between 2T/3T right now, so I think I'll get a 4T and hope it can maybe last two seasons.

@HappyBaker: Thanks so much for sharing! I love those jackets and just ordered 2 for the price of one! I find that they run true to size for my son. He's 23 months and he's been wearing the 18 month coat this winter. I ordered a 2T for next winter.

Really? I'm surprised you all think they run true to size (and especially small)!! We have two of the down sweater jackets and use them mostly for to/from school and running errands. If K is going to be playing in the snow, we have athicker parka with hood & powder skirt.
Anyways, K will be 3 in April. I bought an 18m jacket before last winter and it fit her all last winter and still fits this winter too. I had bought a 2T one for this year, which she also wears, and can layer under it a bit heavier. She wears 3T in all other clothes, if that gives you any idea of the jacket sizing.

@QueensBee: @KayKay: Thanks guys! I ended up getting an 18month for DS and a 3T for DD. I figure even if they are too big they will eventually fit DS at least and I feel like the resale value is really high anyway.

@KayKay: maybe a touch big? T is almost 3 but he still wears 2T tops in every brand including Patagonia. He started wearing it in the fall when his 18m size started getting too short. He's pretty small for his age though!

I also find both Patagonia and TNF to run huge! My 10 month old has a 0-3 month Perrito jacket that still fits and a 12 month Patagonia down sweater waiting for next year. And it's getting a little short, but my 2.5 year old can still wear her 18 month Osito hoodie in a pinch!

My girls are still wearing the 18 month size, so I think they run big!

Haha! My LO must be huge (80th percentile) which is why I said true to size! Her birthday is in November and she always gets a new winter jacket from her grandparents and it's always the age that she just turned. When she turned 2 she had a 2T that lasted that winter and barely fit her the next winter (she looked ridiculous) and when she turned 3 the 3T fits perfectly but there's no way it will fit next winter.

Whoa, I'm also surprised to hear people saying they run TTS! I definitely think they run big. My LO is small for his age but he has a 6mo down jacket and a down vest in the same size and they're both still big on him. He turned one last week.

They do fit slim, so I think it's easy to disguise them being big - I ordered up a size as well hoping to get two seasons out of it (or at least fall/spring of the same year).
For fun, I just put a 12m jacket on my 2.5 year old - granted she's petite, but it still zipped easily and was a decent length (hit right at her waist, not below), only the sleeves are too short, by about 2 inches.
I'm not trying to be contrary, I promise - just posting in hopes of helping others who want to take advantage of this awesome deal! Big thanks to @HappyBaker: for helping us all score a great deal. I was so tempted to buy two but DD already has a fantastic coat wardrobe.
By the way, they've also got a steal on Baby Bogs on REI ($25) - http://www.rei.com/product/873341/bogs-bogs-baby-rain-boots-toddlers and some great deals on warm, cute hats!

I also think they run a bit small--LO is 28 months and wearing a 2T and it zips just fine but is definitely a bit short on him (he does have a long torso though).
