We usually try to schedule things for when the kids are both down, which is after 8 pm. The great thing is that my in-laws live with us, so as long as someone's home we are free to go out since the kids are down anyway. We're only gone a small window of time from 8:30-10/11 pm though.

We do a lot of things with LO in tow. If it's not a baby friendly event, we get a babysitter, but that's rare.

Friends usually come over for dinner or we meet at the beach with kids. Also I sneak away once in a blue moon. DH doesn't really socialize. Poor guy! He gets a lot of interpersonal contact at work and loves solitude so he doesn't mind. I rely on the internet for social contact sometimes b/c I'm not really a phone person. I am super social so it's really hard for me.

We try to meet our friends who have kids during the day. We have found that brunch/dim sum/lunch works well for us. We also once had some friends without kids come over with take out and games. We hung out at our house and put our LO to bed at her usual bed time. That worked well too!

We haven't done any date nights yet since we don't have family around and we haven't found a sitter.

We've lucked out with a mellow baby who doesn't care who puts him down, so we go out often. Usually one of us will stay home while the other goes out with friends but about twice a month we'll have our nanny stay late so we can go on a date or to friends' birthday parties. We also have a sweet deal going with our next door neighbors where we watch each other's babies for a couple hours which is FREE. If we stay out too late or drink a lot, we usually take turns the next day playing with LO so the other can catch up on sleep.
