I just say "Hello", but lately I have heard lots of variations of answering the phone. "Hey what's up" "This is X" or "Hi" if the person already knows who I am. How do you answer the phone? Does it depend on who you are talking to?

Usually "hello" or "hi" or if I know who it is sometimes I answer "WHAT" hahaha... (but only for really close people!) LOL.
At work it's just "hello s speaking".

I say "hey" if it's someone like my husband, other family member or a good friend. I say "hello" if it's work or unknown.

If I know who it is the "Hey..."
If not then "Hello...... Who's calling... Oh hey..." It's how I screen my calls. Lol.

Depends who is calling.. normally I say "Hello" but varying on friends I may say "whats shakin bacon!" or "aint no thang but a chicken wing".or "Reeses pizza and wings, can I take your order" , old lady voice, the list goes on.. We try to switch it up amongst each other (close friends).

At work I say "This is Jennifer"
My cell phone it depends: if its my husband I answer "Hey babe", if its a friend I'll say either Hello, Good Morning, etc. Usually just Hello.

Depends. At work I say "company name, "Pepper" speaking." When I answer my personal phone and don't know who it is, I say "hello?" If I know who it is, it's usually "What's up?" Or "Hey!"

I say "Hello?" when it's my cell, I say "XX Company!?" when I am at work.

When my sister calls i usually say "hey, what's up"
When my parents call: hi mommy, hi appa
When ob or pediatrician call I say hello, this is Susan

I answer with "hello" 95% of the time but if its a close friend that I haven't heard from in a reeeeally long time I'll answer something like "heeey stranger!" Or whatever thing comes out when I get excited.

I say hello unless it's my Chinese friends then I answer with "way". Why?? I have no idea. Just to be silly I guess. haha.

I'm in the middle of applying for 239874023840284 jobs so when I answer it's usually "This is Ali" (oh snap I just gave you my name, whatcha gonna do with that?! Nobody steal my identity, cool?) if I know who it is though I usually say "Hey Mom!" or "Hey babe!" for DH

One of my sisters and I will answer the phone, when the other is calling, by saying, "yellow!" Then we will go back and forth saying colors until someone messes up. Like, yellow, purple, green, red, and so on and so in.

@babyjmama: Yup! Mine actually has "son" added to it but most people call me Ali. This one girl in HS used to write "ally" which annoyed the heck out of me cause I have 1 L and no Y!

If it's someone I'm excited to talk to, I'll just pick up and say, "Hi friend!" or "Hi buddy!"
For others, it's just "hello?"

Usually something obnoxious like Yellow
we don't really have a direct work phone since we moved to a different campus, so no work calls to worry about.

@hellobeeboston: shut the front door! This is crazy! I know more people on HB who have the same name as me than I did real life! Now question:do you put your full name on resumes and such? I feel like Ali just looks so...short. but then I end up explaining that I go by Ali and it seems ridiculous. @sorrycharlie:

@babyjmama: yes! I use my full name on resumes, etc.... Because of that I mostly go by my full name at work then eventually people end up using the nickname. But I agree! Seems too short to use profressionally somehow!

Some of the places I've put in applications at have a "preferred name" section and I list it there. That way they don't think "Who the heck is Ali" when I answer the phone (not that anyone has called me yet....*sigh

Depends on who's calling. For most people it's "Hello". For my close friends/family (like my BsIL/SsIL) it's "Hey darlin'" for DH it's "Hello Sweetie" (in a British accent), "Hi Husband!" "Hey babe/sweet cheeks" "Hello sexy-pants/sexy-face" (caller-id, obviously).
At my last job it was "Good morning/afternoon thank you for calling (store name). This is Sarah speaking, how can I help you today?"
. Company calls I am very Hello, Reese speaking.. etc.
