I tried using a bleach pen (I guess I assumed bleach cleans everything, right??) and it didn't work!

What about trying some vinegar and baking soda? Let it sit for 30 minutes and then scrub it off.

Magic eraser is the best thing I've found. But, whatever you end up doing you have to reseal the grout after or all your hard work will be for nothing.
I want to try this from YHL http://www.younghouselove.com/2014/01/how-you-like-me-now-grout/ I know someone who tried it and also had great results.

I am totally going to try the magic eraser. I have been pain stakingly hand scrubbing the grout in our kitchen with a stiff bristled brush and Castile soap. It works really well but it is taking forever!I wish we had sealed it when we moved in and it was still brand new.

DH did our whole kitchen floor with a scrub brush and comet. It made a HUGE difference. All in the time R and I went to the grocery store, so less then an hour.

Equal parts hot vinegar mixed with Dawn dish soap, then smeared on the tile. Leave it alone for 30-40 minutes, then scrub it with a big brush and rinse.

@Boogs: We did this! HUGE difference but definitely very time consuming.

@Mamaof2: @Boogs: I book marked that page too and when the time comes that's what I'm doing!

@Boogs: Thanks for that link. We are moving into a house where all the tile has been grouted pink. I had heard about coloring grout but I had never seen it done. It really made a big difference on their tile.

Yikes! I would hire someone, otherwise it takes a LOT of hard work scrubbing with a brush... vinegar and baking soda is the safest.

@Cole: The magic eraser takes a bit also and you go through a few of them.
@Mamaof2: I wanna see before and after photos and a review! I'm considering doing ours because even after cleaning it still needs love.
@Reese: Agreed, super time consuming.
@snowjewelz: @JMOM: Please share when you do it!
@Greentea: I think some companies will steam clean your grout.

@Boogs: no judging my dirty ass grout lines- deal??
I picked up the grout renew and it's freaking awesome!!
I used the color linen
You can clearly see where I applied it!
I used a paint brush and it goes on nice but will be time consuming

@Mamaof2: It's SO worth it! It's much better to do it that way than do it quickly and than go through and scrape off the excess!
We bought a house that was 15ish years old and there was just NO saving those grout lines.. I think they used a medium/dark grey initially and the built up dirt didn't help. I tried EVERY.SINGLE thing posted online/pinterest.. and grout renew was my only saviour.

Here are some before and after pictures! It's been just over a year and it has held up perfectly! I love that it is also a sealer. The only thing that I didn't like was it seemed as if we had very limited colour options in Ontario. The grey they offered was a medium to dark grey (not far enough from the original), a maroon (wtf?) and 2 shades of white (which I mixed to create this colour).

@Reese: Nice! It looks like a new tile job. And oops we must have been posting at the same time.

@Reese: wow! That looks great! I saw it had a sealer in it but was wondering if I should seal it anyway??
Here I had too many colors to choose from- 12!
I bought 2 hoping one would work and it did!!
I am so excited for my kitchen floors to look nice again!!

@Boogs: Haha yep! I had to back track through my photo dates to find out the exact time! I can't believe it has been that long!

@Mamaof2: Awesome! I did 2 coats. I forget what it recommended. I think YHL did 2 as well.

@Mamaof2: That looks awesome! I'm going to have to pick some of that up. There's a few spots that have stains that I'd really like to take care of!
In the future for something quick you might want to try the dollar store foaming carpet cleaner. I usually let it spray it on the grout, let work for about 5 minutes, and do a very quick, light scrub. The dirt usually all comes up. Before finding that I tried vinegar/baking soda, magic erasers, bleach, etc....None of the others worked for me.

@Mamaof2: Wow that looks amazing! I am going to have to pick some up!

@Reese: Ahh can you post them gold to my wall? I am trying to convince DH to get it so I want some more evidence of how good this stuff is!

Toilet paper soaked in bleach, let it sit in the grout for 10-15 minutes, rinse with hot water!

@Boogs: Here is a picture of the portion of my grout I have done. We have pink grout everywhere and we picked a light tan. I will say that the color of the Grout Renew we chose is actually lighter than the color card at Home Depot - but it works. It is pretty time consuming, but it is not difficult. But, $12 vs $100's-$1000's for new grout or tile is worth it to me.

Soft scrub. Let it sit then tackle with a toothbrush. Sucks but super effective.

I love scrubbing my grout! I spray it with bleach then scrub scrub scrub away at it with a small hard-bristle brush. Its so satisfying!! Is that weird?!
@JMOM: @Mamaof2: That looks great! I need to get me some of that!!
