The part of my coffee maker where the water goes gets gross because of the type of water we have, but I have tried running vinegar through a few cycles to clean it, and that didn't work very well. As far as the actual pot, I will run that through the dishwasher once in a while, but usually I just add salt and ice and mix it around. That works well, but any other tips on cleaning the coffee maker? How often do you/should you do it?

I am no help, since we use a french press that is no harder to clean than a mug. Sorry!

I use a run of vinegar (maybe a third full) in the machine and then several runs of water to get the pot clean.

Ours has a self cleaning mode so I run it through with vinegar.

Have you tried CLR? It works in the commercials!

I have a Tassimo that has been flashing the descale light at me for a few days now but I can't find descaler.
I've read that citric acid works too, in place of vinegar -- pure lemon juice, or citrus Kool-Aid (the kind you have to add sugar to).
