I am working on getting started on LOs big girl room. I have never really designed a room so I'm unsure of a good process or method. I have heard that some suggest getting an inspiration piece and then designing around that. Or should I look for bedding first?
I love inspiration boards but aren't good at putting them together (no photoshop skills here)

It's best to start out with a color pallette and an inspiration board and go from there. I wish I had done that with our living room and bedroom, instead I kind of backed into the design and colors. For our nursery I am definitely doing it right - finally lol!

For me, I like to start with whatever will be the inspiration. So, for example, if you have a piece of artwork, use that as your starting point. For you LOs room, I think a good place to start is something (fabric, picture, etc) that inspires you.

Is there anything you currently have that you want in her big girl room? If so, pick some colors out of that and then go from there. Bedding is normally the priciest thing so if you don't already have inspiration or an inspiration piece, start looking for bedding. Then choose your theme from that!

@mediagirl: that's a good point with bedding being the most expensive. I think that makes sense to start there.

Also consider what you want her to be able to do in the room-sleep, read, play, draw, change clothes etc. As you plan for style don't leave out function. A great furniture piece can inspire style (modern, traditional, whimsical etc) and even color direction.

I think starting with something you know you want in there or love and jump off from there. We're using a small decorative table we bought on vacation this summer as a colour pallet and then building from there.
I also agree that bedding is pricey so buy that and match paint etc to it instead of vice-versa.
