Good question...I did my best to manage my son's expectations (he is not getting something that he thinks he is) and I hope he is satisfied with what I did buy. We gave him an experience gift for his birthday last week and he seems pretty excited for it, so I think we might be going that route from now on for the holidays too.

I'm excited. Neither of my kids had any specific requests, but I think my son is going to love his main gift (I do ). My daughter is newly 3 and barely cares, so I think she'll just be excited that so much of it is pink.

I went way over board for E this year. She's just one of those kids who likes everything so I kept seeing things she would love..... She's going to be over the moon, but I feel deep down that it's too much.

I feel really good about them. She asked for three things (one of which was cookies lol), so she'll be getting everything on her list. Her "big" gift from Santa is a dollhouse and dolls which I'm really excited for her to see. I feel like we struck a good balance this year of getting her stuff she's going to be really excited about but also not going overboard.

I'm excited, but I'm also a little nervous. I know the kids will LOVE the gifts we got them, but Xander has been asking for some pretty specific things that he WON'T be getting, so I'm worried about his reaction to not receiving those things. Hopefully he'll be excited enough about gifts he does get, that he won't mind!

Pretty good. All she has asked for are Shopkins and a puzzle. We got her a bunch more than that so, hopefully she is happy.

i'm excited. in the past we have done a big gift but didn't this year (well, in terms of money we got her magnatiles- or an off brand- but she won't know thats a "bigger" gift). But she is getting her first electronic toys (a camera and walkie-talkies) and she is going to be so excited about those!!!!

the baby doesn't give a shit but I'm excited because I had fun picking out stuff for when we start solids in a couple months.

I can't wait for next Sunday! DS is developmentally ready for the gifts we plan to give him. If all goes well he will receive additional grow-into-him toys from relatives that will keep him occupied until his birthday four months away.

Neutral? I've always gotten what DD needs through out the year so I wasn't saving anything especially for Christmas. It's mostly stocking stuffer-ish smaller things. At her age (2) it's pretty easy to amuse her with anything new anyway!

She asked for 3 things which weren't big and they were easy to get, so I know she will be happy even though we didn't get her a ton of "stuff"

We are also telling her on Christmas morning about the Disney trip we will be taking in March. I can't wait to see her reaction !

We already had our Christmas yesterday. We are going to Canada on Friday to spend the holidays with DHs family and I wanted to have our own Christmas with our own tree at our house. It was great! I tried to keep it small, but it still ended up seeming like too much somehow. My kids are young and get gift fatigue after just 1-2 gifts.

This year we got a joint gift--a play kitchen and a set of play food. Then I got a bunch of small stocking stuffers (color wonder markers, playdough, tattoos, bandaids) that I wrapped before putting them in the stockings. And my mom gave them each 1 doll. And our nanny gave them each a doll stroller.

But we had to force them to open their gifts--after they saw the kitchen, they didn't want to do anything other than play with that! Every year, I try to go small and it's still too much. Maybe next year I will learn to just do 1 gift somehow.

I'm excited! I definitely overbought this year but have already decided that next year when we have 3 kids we'll stick to the want wear need read. Have already spoken to my 4 year old about not getting everything she wants and hopefully she won't be disappointed on the day.

I'm very excited! DD1 is 3 this year and its such a fun age. We got her and DD2 a bounce house for the basement - I think she is going to freak out! I cant wait to video tape it!

(really its for the 3 year old - DD2 is only 9 mos - she'll enjoy it just not quite yet!)

I'm excited. DS is almost 3 so he gets the concept of presents this year. He's been very sad that we keep mailing the presents to other people so I know he will be really excited to open some. We are struggling with the whole sharing toys and what belongs to whom so I'm not looking forward to more of that.

*sigh* I'm planning to give DS the gift I got him two years ago. Two years. Why is it still sitting in the closet wrapped? Because every year relatives come bearing loads of plastic junk. I think, this year out goes the junk still in its wrap, and in goes something he'll actually play with more than once. At least it's a game that's good for all ages... he might enjoy it more now than two years ago!

DD isn't getting anything fancy, just a new car seat. Hopefully I'll get her something awesome on her birthday, but again, I have to get a handle on the plastic junk situation first

I feel pretty "meh" about them. He's only 2 so doesn't understand whats going on, so we will only do one night of Hannukah gifts (easier that way). Because we are in the process of buying and renovating a house, I didn't want to go all out, so I did wants/needs/wear/read for him, and for my husband, and my mom got him a new stroller sleeping bag instead of a fun gift.

I'm excited for the 3.5 year old. She really really wants Anna and Elsa dresses, so I know she will be thrilled with them. And my neighbor gave us a hand me down play kitchen which will be the big gift for both of them and I think they will love. (And it feels like it really WAS from Santa since I had put it on an Amazon wishlist days before the neighbor came and asked if we wanted it!). I don't think we went too overboard but they will also be getting lots of gifts from relatives so it will be a lot.

@Adira: I've been thinking of you, actually. C has been asking for a train costume, which is so random because she doesn't even really like trains. And I remembered you made that awesome Thomas costume and briefly considered copying that, but we decided to remove the awful wallpaper border in our bathroom and the train idea went out the window.

Eh. He just turned one so he has no idea what's going on. We got him a book, a big teddy bear, and a radio flyer wagon. None of them are wrapped. LOL.

@Foodnerd81: Oh weird! And yes, making the train costume was pretty time consuming. Hopefully C won't be too disappointed!

@Anagram: Oooh! So glad to hear she wasn't disappointed and didn't seem to notice. Hopefully Xander will just be happy with what he gets and forgets about the other items he's been asking for.

I strayed a bit from want/need/wear/read and bought more than she needs (she needs nothing but jams and socks) but I'm excited for her play kitchen and accessories.
