DH and I usually only have my mom or sister babysit, but sometimes we have events where they will both be going too, or we don't want to bug them for say, 2 hours while we go to a meeting. We want to get someone we can have on hand but I get too nervous picking someone I don't know. Did you go to a babysitting site? Go by recommendations from friends? Something else?

I use recommendations from friends mostly. Also, there's a list from my mom's group of trained babysitters that I go to sometimes.

We have some neighbors with kids a little older than our lo. I think when the time comes (when she's 8? hahahahhaaha) we'll ask them for a recommendation.

We do not have many friends nearby with children, so we used Care.com. I found a coupon code to get 30% off a one month subscription. I set up interviews at Panera with a couple different sitters after doing some messages back and forth with several people. We really liked one girl and decided to stick with her - she's sat a few times for my LO over the past few months. I would just suggest going with your gut feeling and asking for references of past families they have sat for.

I'm so pleased that it worked out for you guys, since I've been really nervous about it, even though I'm not typically a nervous parent about this sort of thing. Maybe I'll stop dragging my heels now...

We mostly use people from church, whether it be adults or teens.

Recommendations from friends, for the most part. When I needed one, I just asked on facebook, and the little sister of a friend offered. I knew she wasn't a murderer or anything, so I had that basic level of trust. She has turned out to be awesome, and now I'm passing her name around to all of my friends.
