How do you get all the cream that rises to the top after you've pumped? I swirl it back together before I transfer to bags, but sometimes I'm upset because I feel like there is a lot left.

I just do what you do and swirl the bottle around and try to capture it all. It's hard to avoid leaving some behind when I transfer to bags. I guess you could just buy the bags yiu can pump directly into but then when you go to pour into bottles to use the milk you'll still leave some of the cream behind!

I flip the bottle upside down and swirl, and sometimes I run a bit of warm water over the bottle.

Swirl and run warm water around the side of the bottle. I was actually wondering if I was doing something bad to the milk by running the warm water on it for a few minutes, but it sounds like everyone else does too. It doesn't totally incorporate into the milk, but gets off the side of the bottle enough. There are usually one or two spots left that annoy me.

I swirl it until it's all gone, sometimes it takes a while- but I'm a little nuts about not wasting a drop of milk. If it's a stubborn spot, I'll run it under water.

Does the running water affect it if I'm putting it in the freezer? I worry that it will mess it up because the temp change. I didn't think about turning upside down!

I notice everyone is saying they swirl it, is there a reason not to just shake it? I shake it up before transferring into the freezer bags to get all the cream but now I'm concerned that is bad??

@Weagle: so shaking it does the same damage as freezing? If it's already being damaged by freezing does it matter?

@NeekieRose: You would still get the good stuff, just not in the same form. But I think the OP was talking more about unfrozen milk, in which case there would be no damage from freezing yet.

@Weagle: eeek. I've been freezing it so it doesn't go bad and I he a back-up stash when I go back to work. Is that horrible?

@singingbee: Not at all! Freezing is fine. The article states that all if the good stuff is still there, but it just is in a different form. Like two different houses have the same purpose but are built differently. If you're harming your baby by freezing, then I definitely harmed mine.
