I just received a trial run for a variety of cloth diapers in the mail. I'm excited to use them, but I'm also apprehensive at the same time! I've come to rely on the blue line indicator for knowing when it's time to change LO's diaper, at least for pee. I am also wondering how wet of a diaper my baby will tolerate. I admit, sometimes it gets super saturated before we change his diaper! Disposable diapers are suppose to be great at wicking away moisture, but I hear it's less so with cloth diapers. Does your baby indicate when they need a diaper change? How picky are they about being changed right away when they are soiled? I'm considering pocket diapers or All-in-Ones! Any tips for a newbie???

It depends a lot on the baby, mine hated being wet, so it's the first thing I check when they fuss. This might sound gross, but I just stick my finger in and see if they're wet. It's so much less effort than getting them all undressed. I use covers and inserts (applecheeks) so I stick my finger between the insert and the cover, not the cover and the bum...to avoid sticking my finger in poo.

Long story short, I change them pretty much every time they pee. I'm used to it, but other moms, even other cloth diapering moms, think that's insane. My girls rash otherwise.

My son doesn't really fuss when wet or dirty so we check similar to Mrs. Superhero but at a maximum duration we changed my son every 2 hours when he was less than 1 year old and every 3 hours when over 1 year old. It seems to be about the right rotation. We only change at night if he poops.

As a newborn it bothered Baby Boy a lot so we changed really often. I think 2 hours is about right, although now I pretty much know when to expect it: right after naps and after meals plus anytime we leave the house I do an extra check.

A wet/dirty diaper doesn't seem to bother LO, but I tend to change her about every 2 hours anyway. If I know she has pooped, then, of course, I will change it then.

My LO never ever fussed over a wet diaper. I thought she would because they say that you can feel it more with cloth, but nope. I don't change when she pees (because I never know because she doesn't fuss) I just change it ever couple of hours or when she poos.

@cranberryapple: Watch your baby's behavior and skin. I just change with poops or at feeding time. (He usually poops when he feeds, so then I change the diaper after that, and I'll change it after a feed now no matter what). I don't change the diaper overnight: I just use an extra soaker pad. He doesn't poop overnight.

C nevers fusses over wet diapers either. She wears one overnight, we just use extra inserts, and then during the day it's about every 2 hours.

Every 2 hours (initially it was before and/or after every feed).
Now it is every 2 hours (and after every feed), when he poops, and when he fusses. -
@artbee: @zippylef: Which cloth diapers do you ladies use? We started our trial and LO HATES HATE HATES being wet!! We don't have this problem with disposables though.

@cranberryapple: BG, All in One, One Size. The good thing about them not liking being wet with cloth is that they're supposed to potty train quicker!
