All I post about these days is nursing... must be because it's all I do!
How do you know LO is done? I was advised by LC to try to nurse her on just one side each session. I've been trying that during the day and then giving both at night because she goes longer between feeds. Sometimes she seems unsatisfied after a feed but when I put her back on she's not really drinking. I'm trying to keep her around 20 mins a side to help my nipples heal.
LO is 16 days old.

Does she pop off with glee or with a look of satisfaction? That's how my LO looked when he we was done eating. When he got hungry again, he'd give my boobs a come hither look.

oh it was so hard for me to tell--at that point i was nursing and supplementing with a bottle (either formula or pumped milk) because LO was such a sleepy nurser. i would nurse for 15-20 minutes on each side (closer to 15 because it was such a tiring process trying to keep him awake) and then give him the bottle. when he really slowed down with the bottle, i would make the executive decision that he was done. after a while he wasn't taking so much from the bottle, and would go by time--around 15 minutes per side.
he was so sleepy that i just couldn't get any cues from him as to whether he was full, so i went by time (even though they say not to do that--whatever).

I'm also interested in answer to this question. I feel like my supply has increased somewhat from the ridiculously low supply I started out with. The problem is that because we supplemented with formua a few times he's never had one of those "I'm a breast-fed baby" poops. And because of my low supply, he has never actually signaled that he's done.
I'm considering renting a baby scale just to see how much he is transferring at this point.

@cascademom: She doesn't really pop off. She'll start lazy sucking, not really drinking, or will sometimes fall asleep - but we don't often get that smily milk-drunk baby look, even on her longer feeds (both sides, 40+ minutes). She is gaining and producing adequate diapers so I don't think it's a milk transfer or supply issue.

@Revel: It's always hard to tell with mine. If he doesn't just pop off on his own, I have no idea if he's done or not! Often, he'll just fall asleep and continue comfort sucking. If, after a while, I don't hear him swallowing, I pop him off. If he's still hungry, he usually lets me know.

My LO was a comfort sucker and never really "popped" herself off but I could usually tell she was done by the change in her sucking pattern

DS would (and still does at 9m) slip his latch to the end of the nipple and just suck, if I move his head he will usually let go without any protest.
