My FIL owns a tire store on top of the construction company I work for. I can ask my BIL his opinion if you give me your year and ask about how pricing works.

And just talked with him and he said that there's 3 tiers of tires, from best to worst, and they'll be priced accordingly. He also said it's a good idea to call around for multiple quotes and said big places like Tire Kingdom are a good place to start because they buy so many tires, they often have good deals. And with you having a Camry and it being a popular car, you shouldn't have an issue getting a decent price somewhere. He said he likes Michelin tires best, but they are a premium tire. He said in general he just prefers American brands like Michelin and Goodyear, but there's really not a huge difference to the Japanese or Chinese tires for just everyday. He said other factors are if you drive long distances or care about rain conditions, there are tires that can help with both noise reduction, gas mileage and better control, but they'll be priced as special tires, so again, price goes up.

Does that raise some more question for you? He said just let him know if you need specifics on anything.

We buy tires off of tirerack.com and found a compromise between price and features, by comparing a bunch and checking the reviews. Now whenever we need new tires on my car, we just order the same ones. I commute 3 hrs every day, so I've gone through a few sets.

I second Costco. Its been a while since I've bought there, but if I remember correctly they used to give a credit for "left over" tread left on your old tires.
