If you get a tax return, what do you do with it? Save it, spend it, use it as play money and buy something fun?

When I was single I would just throw it at debt or living expenses. Sometimes I'd go shopping and buy a pair of shoes

Paid off some credit card debt and got somethings we've been holding off on.

First year filing together and we saved all of it. In the past I would buy something nice and save the rest!

It goes in the savings account, along with my bonuses. Boring!

Voted spend, but really depends. If there's something we want or need like a new computer.. Otherwise, just goes to our bank account. =( except for this year.... Paying boatload.

We're saving it, but only temporarily. We're going to Italy in October and it'll be funding our flights.

We used it for some things we needed to take care of, put money away for DD & then saved a little bit.

Normally I'd just save it. This year, we're hoping to use it as part of a down payment on our first house!

Ha ha... People get refunds?! I'm proud to do my civic duty, but we definitely owed this year.

We probably should change our withholdings. My husband still has his on no dependents so between me working just a little and having a baby we got back a lot of money.

If I ever got a return, I'd save it. Most of the time I owe, which is perfectly fine by me. I prefer to keep my money working for me.

Dh's ex-wife got to spend it all. And spend she did, the girls are decked out in new clothes and have a rainbow of Tom's. That's what not working for 6 months will get you!
It's times like these that I wish I could still file single with one dependent, I use to get so much back!!! Now that we're married we get barely half of what I use to, how does that work exactly? lol

we only got back a couple hundred bucks, so it went right into savings.

@looch: I agree. I'm probably getting better return on that money than if I paid out during the year.

Right now I file quarterly, so when we get a refund, we just roll it over and apply it to next year's estimated quarterly taxes. Then I put the extra cash that we don't have to spend on our quarterly taxes into our saving account. I like this system better than getting a refund check, which I used to immediately blow on something fun (but not necessary).

@pastemoo: I had always heard you got more money back the year you got married...but we got less! 1500 less than I got when I was single! Man, I wonder what I did wrong...
