We just put ours in a ziplock bag! What do you do with the rubber band??

@MrsBrewer: usually our bag isn't big enough to fit over the block (until it is half gone) so we put the bag over the top (the cheese wrapper still on the bottom half) and rubber band it air tight.

We just put it in glass storage containers, sometimes ziplocs.

Depends, but lately if we have a few things of cheese, we will put them all in a tupperware type container, still in their original packaging folded over the open parts. So, fewer ziploc bags to throw out. But you have to be careful doing that with stinky or blue cheeses since they can contaminate the rest.

We wrap them in parchment or wax paper and then put them into ziplock bags.

Ziploc bags or tupperware depending on how much of the cheese is left.

my friend worked in a cheese store and taught me the best way to wrap cheese is to take a small piece of wax paper and then put some saran wrap over it. We do that now, and our cheese lasts FOREVER!

Usually tupperware or zip lock. If it's too big for the little baggy zip lock I'll use a bigger freezer bag.

@Pirouette: Wrap it first in wax paper and then over it in saran wrap? No bag or anything over it all?
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@LindsayInNY: yup! no bag. just wrap it tightly so both layers fully cover the cheese. it works for all kinds of cheese!

@Pirouette: Do you rubber band the Saran wrap to keep it tight?
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@Rainbow Sprinkles: nope, i actually never thought of doing that. but it does seem to stay tight without it. I think maybe we just use a bigger piece of saran wrap than the size of the cheese? we definitely do that with parmesan, since the block tends to be unevenly sized.

@MsLipGloss: We only ever really get regular cheddar and extra sharp white cheddar. what kinds of cheese do you get?
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
@Pirouette: Yup I've read that before-- keep the plastic taste from leaching into your good cheese. But cheese usually doesn't last that long in my house anyway (as in, we eat it too fast, not that it goes bad!). If I get something really good, that's what I follow.

@Foodnerd81: oh yea, I hear that! cheese only lasts a while if we're busy and not home a whole lot
bananas / 9357 posts
@Pirouette: oh cool! Didn't know that.
I usually just put it in a ziploc or container.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: Pretty much regular stuff, although DH likes to get fancy cheeses too sometimes. I was just curious because cheese sounded tasty at the time.
