...about volume control? And to stop whining?

DS is 15 months old. DD is 2 months old. I know I'm dealing with two little balls of Id, struggling to communicate in their own way but I need a way to help my eldest curb or at least understand his emotions. He whines and cries whenever you aren't giving him what he wants, be it attention or a bottle of milk (yes, we're still fighting him on bottles/sippy cups). And if you don't give him what he wants when he wants it, melt down. I know there isn't much I can do when dealing with this other than giving him as much attention - positive attention - as I can without rewarding too much of this bad behavior. I try to distract him when the bad behavior crops up, like Mr. Bee suggested jn anrecent post but I'm afraid he's too young for this. It just isn't working.

As for volume, whenever he and I play while DD is sleeping, DS is prome to shrieking. Shushing doesn't work, trying to talk softer doesn't work, he just runs through the house practically screaming. I try to keep him from wherever DS is sleeping but the house has wood floors and open concept so sound travels. I try sometimes to pacify him with his pacifier but he just takes it between his teeth and continues shrieking. Saying his name doesn't get his attention and I'm not sure he'd understand a quick swat to his bottom. I'm at a loss!

Any suggestions? I'm at my wits end this weekend.
