At 3.5, my child still likes to bang on the keyboard to the computer. We have tried again and again to get her to be gentle with it and to teach her how to use the keys properly but she just ignores us and bangs away. ARGH. Any tips?

At our house, they aren't allowed to touch the computer since it is my work computer. However, they do get to play with phones/iPads from time to time. We talk about how they have to be gentle with it and aren't allowed to touch them if they don't have permission. They also have to sit to use them and can't carry them. That doesn't always stop DD from picking up my phone and carrying it around though.

For me, at 3.5 that would be a following directions issue not a capability issue. So it would mean an immediate, calm removal to time out every time because LO knows we are gentle with keyboards and is choosing not to listen. After timeout we would bang on something made for banging.

We take the tablet away if she bangs it. She gets one reminder + warning, then its gone.

DS is 2.5 and we tell him to be gentle! If he continues his rough behavior we either put him in time out or take away the good.

I feel like keyboards are just hard for kids because they like to hear the click.
Someone recommended getting an old keyboard from GoodWill or something for them to "practice" on until they can learn to really type.

I take it away from her at her first sign of roughness. Last week she threw down the kindle. It's been in my sock drawer for a week now.
