I have a hospital about 20 minutes away, and then another about an hour away. The second one is in a different county, and is a lot further..
How far away is yours?

It was 15-20 minutes away but we got caught in traffic and it took 1 hour and 15 minutes when I was in labor.

Depending on traffic, it can be anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour. I'm choosing to go to a hospital that favors natural birth in another state, and I'm just crossing my fingers that I don't have to go through downtown during rush hour while I'm in labor.

20 minutes or so away during good downtown Chicago traffic. I got really lucky going into labor on a Monday night. We only had a touch of bad traffic at Michigan Avenue, our only stop light.

There are 2 about 15 minutes away, and one about...30 minutes away.

Ours was 15-20 minutes away as long as it wasn't rush hour. I went to the hospital after the morning rush. Thank goodness DS didn't show up on game day Saturday like his due date predicted. I would have been in traffic forever.

There is a hospital under 5 minutes, but it is not where I did or would give birth. The hospital DS was born at is about 20 minutes away without traffic.

The one I am 'assigned' to is about 20-30 mins away. There is one that is literally 5 mins from my house but noooo I wasn't smart enough to pick a doctor that is at that one! lol! The nice thing is it is across the street from my SIL & BIL, so they will be right there! And maybe we can use their house as a staging area for guests LOL.

we have 4 that are around us that have L&D and all are about 15-30 mins from my house.

I live near a major city, so there a ton of hospitals within a half hour drive or so (including one less than ten minutes away). Because I like to make my life difficult though, I chose one that is over an hour away.

15 looooong minutes once labor started! I was so thankful we didn't have traffic or construction because the minute my butt hit that car seat, contractions became horrible. I hadn't noticed much before that point.

Ours will be about 20-30 minutes away (although there is one in my town but my practice isn't there!)
@cascademom: Which Chicago hospital? I was born at St. Joseph's in the city

i could walk there in about 15 minutes.... its down the street from our house.

There is one 5 minutes down the road, but I preferred my hospital which was 20-30 minutes away depending on traffic. It was worth the drive!

Ours would normally take 30 minutes to get to, but when I went into labor it took an hour and 15 minutes! There was so much traffic--it was the worst car ride of my life!

@Bookworm: lol! That's the purpose of this thread, so I know which hospital to chose! :))

There's one 15 minutes away, and one about 30 minutes away, but I chose to give birth in one that's an hour away. I also drive an hour to the pediatrician/OB. Because I like to make my life difficult.

The closest took us 12 minutes to get to with no traffic. Thank God, I went into labor before rush hour on Monday.

Mine is actually on the opposite side of the city in what I consider the most congested part of town. So on a good day it could take 20 minutes in a cab and on a bad day over an hour!
It's also a 20 minute walk from the closest subway, so it's not like that is even an option. The best scenario would be for me to go into labor while at work since I would already be pretty close.

Ours is 40 minutes w/o traffic!
We have an HMO and it is the only Kaiser hospital in San Diego. TECHNICALLY, we could go to an out of network hospital that has one Kaiser OBGYN on staff, but it's still about 30 minutes away, and my OBGYN specifically suggestedm against it because that hospital doesn't have the NICU like there's does...

5 minutes. I was so happy that it would be a short ride while I was in labor, but I ended up being induced, so I never realized that benefit. It was nice that DH could easily come home to get things and take a quick shower. Made the ride home nice as well.

My birth center is about 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic. There's also 2 hospitals within 45 minutes.

The hospital I wanted to deliver at is about 1 hour away... Mr Grizz is more comfortable with the one that is 30 minutes away though, so we chose it. If there was an emergency, we have one about 10 minutes away.

@MrsTiz: Haha good luck! I didn't realize I couldn't go to any hospital I wanted. Duhr. At least, like I said, the far away one is right by the ILs!

My birth center is 45 minutes on a good day, an hour realistically. I'm not worried about it though.

Ours was 10 minutes away, but we ended up with an induction, so it didn't really matter how close it was!
pomelo / 5321 posts
The hospital where I had DS was 25 minutes away. The hospital here is 40 minutes away.

Our hospital is maaaaaybe a 7-minute drive from our house, if we were stuck behind someone slow? But the next hospital, which is the one you go to if you have ANY problem other than something basic, is a 5-hour drive. Most people are medevaced there by plane.
