I found a carton dated June 16 in my fridge. Boo.

I wouldn't eat that...but it's probably ok. I pretty much stick to dates, even though I know they give some leeway.

Not that far. Maybe 4ish days, if it smelled ok? I have eaten spoiled yogurt before (I bought it that morning, but it was already expired) and it was GROSS!

I have it on food authority from a gastroenterologist that he buys his yogurt, ages it in the fridge for six months and then uses it!

@Mrs. Jacks: omg.. 6 months?!? That just made me puke in my mouth..
To answer your question.. Only a couple days, but I'm a little paranoid about old food..

@LaineysMom: it's a live culture. If you knew what was in it you'd probably puke even on it's first freshness date ;). Aging it just increases the amount of live cultures.

@Mrs. Jacks: wow... So are you saying you can't really get sick on yogurt as long as it's refrigerated that whole time? Blech...
I'm pretty adventurous and may eat a week overdue yogurt but that's the max.

@Mrs. Jacks: Wow... that does make sense though! Makes me kinda sad that I just threw out a yogurt dated for 6/25. Live cultures rock!

@runsyellowlites: I happily fed my girls yogurt that is set to expire tomorrow today. I even thought of that crazy doc while I did it. This thread popped up shortly after I did that

@Mrs. Jacks: That's funny! I'm usually fine if it's that day, but after just weirds me out! It'd probably be fine a few days though.......... ......

@Bao: me too! When it comes to dairy an meat: I don't go near the date!
With veggies, I will eat them, even if they're squishy. I'll just stick them in a sauce or crock pot.

Well if it looked and smelled ok I'd eat it up to a week or two past it's date. I'm not too squeamish about stuff like that. Cold cuts I wouldn't touch past their date though. I find eggs I regularly eat past their date cause they always look fine and then I'll notice on the carton that they expired weeks ago. Still alive!

@DigAPony: amen! I think I've eaten an unopened carton of yogurt that was a month or two past date and it was just fine. As long as it looks and smells ok I usually just go for it

My lunch time yogurt today was June 19. Seemed fine. It was a single serve that had never been opened though.

I use stilltasty.com for all this kind of stuff! It says 7-10 days passed the sell by date

As long as it has been stored properly, I'd go up to a month. Yogurt is an interesting beast.

I would do 2-3 days. DH's uncle used to work in the cheese industry in France and said you could easily do a week past the date.
