We live in a house and I'll go unload the car or get the mail but that's it.

Same as @twoofeverything ... if I can see her with the monitor, I feel totally okay going about chores and such in my house and in the yard. A couple of times I've put my dogs on leashes and walked them up and down the sidewalk in front of my neighbors' homes on either side - but the entire time I'm watching her on my monitor and in view of her nursery window {it faces the front of the house}.
Test out your signal when DH is home so you know your limits and what you're comfortable with.

@rrachael: Yup-- as soon as we get a monitor, I'm going to test it out. Not that I think I will let the baby out of my sight in the beginning!

@Foodnerd81: I didn't take my eyes off her for a few weeks ... and then I realized, okay I really want to brush my teeth/wash my face/feel human.... and DH isn't home for six more hours
She loved her mobile (if she was awake) and was totally safe in her crib and I had the monitor on the counter in front of me ...... baby steps

@Anagram: I totally get your point about proximity but I'd be terrified of locking myself out somehow!
We stay in the yard or garage. Mailbox is across the street and ill run there if I have to.

I will cross the street to get mail and uload the car. If she is napping I'll head outside in the yard to do yardwork etc, especially if her window is open so I can hear her. At night we'll sit in the backyard and relax on the patio, though I'd make sure to have the monitor if I couldn't hear her. I'd even venture as far as our neighbours patio, which is 14" further south of our patio (subdivision living). To me, being in the yard or being in the kitchen is the same as long as I can hear her and she is safe.

We live in a single family home. I don't go past my yard but would check mail, let out the dog, get things out of my car !

We live in a single family home. I'll stay in the yard as long as the monitor is with me. I've hung laundry on the line with the monitor in my back pocket. We've also sat out on our patio with the monitor as well.

@Mrs. Champagne: Leave the MONITOR with a neighbor?! Holy cow! I feel like that's so irresponsible. What if someone broke into the house? Or there was a fire? You can't react to those things appropriately with just a baby monitor.
We live in a house and I would get the mail or groceries or work in the garden (with the monitor). But I wouldn't let the house out of my sight or be gone for longer than a few minutes.

I live in an apartment building (1st floor) and I have run out in front of our apt building to the tree with my dog let her pee and run back into the apartment.

The furthest I have left the house was my front yard to trim some bushes. I kept watch on my phone, and I was still so paranoid.
