It might be for me, but that's because I use my initials to sign off my work emails, above my signature.

If you're into monogramming, that wouldn't be a bad combo, though, because it would be hLe in classical style.

Not a ton, though I did suggest a name to DH that was AAS for a girl and he said no dice because it's too close to ass.

I would still use it! If I loved the name, as long as the initials weren't super bad I would use it. I don't think HEL is bad...it's not even the whole "bad" word

Unless it spelled like FU or something I wouldn't worry. PMS would not even be a total dealbreaker in my book. I knew someone with those initials and she's a well-adjusted adult by all appearances.

@pui: I use my initials multiple times a day at work. So, there are situations that could present issues for your LO. But unless it could be construed as obscene, I don't think it would be a deal breaker for me.

I don't think initials matter too much as long as they aren't completely horrible and I wouldn't put HEL in that category.

I would avoid stuff like VAG or PIG but HEL seems ok.

We played the initial game while deciding names as well. There were a few names we stayed away from because of initial issues. DH's coworker is expecting their first, due in May. She's announced the name on their registry. The boy's initials will be "AA." I don't know the middle name, but the AA is enough for me to do an internal eyeroll.

When we married, my initials changed, but nothing crazy to pause at.

I don't think its bad at all! Those are my sister's initials, and other than her university email giving her a giggle, she has had no issues with it

HEL is not the best initials admittedly, but if you both really love the name, I say go for it! I can think of some worse initials.

If you're in love with the name and the initials aren't something vulgar I'd definitely go for it. And I don't think HEL is fine for initials!

I don't think it is a big deal. However, if you think it will bother you - then it is probably a deal breaker. We have the same issues. I love some P names but our last name starts with a P. Many people don't think having PP as initials is a big deal but I think it would bother me too much to go ahead and use a P name.

In this case I'd go with it, I don't think HEL is bad. But like others have mentioned there are many other combos I would avoid!

HEL isn't that bad, often people just us their first and last initial anyway, HL. i think initials matter, my mom has always hated her initials (PAD) and now just uses her first, maiden and married (PDS) rather than her full name (PADS). when i was living with my ex, i had some name anxiety because had we been married & i hyphenated my last name, i would have been ASS if i used 3 letter initials (AESS if i used all 4).

i don't think HEL is that big of a deal, just hope she doesn't marry a partner with a last name beginning with an L and decide to hyphenate her last names

@pui: One was me. Like I said, I wouldn't want them for my own initials, but it could be worse.

I use initials all the time - at work and at home (it's the main way we label things in our house), so it *is* something I considered while picking names.

That said, I won't blink an eye at HEL. Totally fine.

Aside from the obvious ones already mentioned, I absolutely refused to name DD something we were considering because her initials would have been GOP. I just couldn't do it.

I think it is fine. And one day she may get married and change her last name and have different initials anyway.
