We have gotten really passionate about budgetong this year. This month we started using YNAB and are loving it. Budgeting has made our relationahip better and lowered our stress level.

Haven't gone too far yet... We established that we really need to have a grocery budget and a fun/eating out budget. Those are the two things that I haven't gotten under control!

yea... we have been totally off track since Christmas!! We are still doing everything on a cash basis, but our free spending vs. paying toward loans has been less than stellar! time to get on track before baby arrives this summer!

@DillonLion: glad to hear it is going so well!! we did the free trial of ynab in February and are loving it so far. i'm kind of obsessed with entering my transactions as soon as i spend the money with LO#2 on the way we are trying to buckle down and get on track, so i'm really hoping this helps!

We just bought YNAB, and I watched the first live webinar. Still trying to get the system figured out/set up, but I'm hopeful that this will help us. We are royalty in the Set a Budget but Never Look at it Again universe, so we really need work on actually tracking our spending and sticking to a budget, rather than just writing one down! Money is one of the most constant stressors in our marriage, so I'm hoping if we can become consistent in actually tracking and living on budget, that it will remove some of the money-related stress.
If only there was software to remove the student loans causing the money stress!

@Mrs. Blue: You will be amazed how much the stress level decreases with YNAB. Even though some months things don't get paid off as much as I would like, just seeing the progress greatly decreases my anxiety!

We have been using YNAB since September and it has made such a huge difference I can't even articulate the change. We have been able to stick to the goals we set and have really tightened up on some of the money that was just vanishing before.

I just entered all of our information into Mint.com this week, and am stoked to start March all budget-ready.
I've heard awesome things about YNAB though - is it worth the money? Might switch if Mint doesn't work for us.

@Mrs. Blue: if you have any questions about YNAB, I have a pretty good understanding of it.
I have been using a poor mans YNAB system for years, but JUST found out about YNAB, and it is soooooo amazing. I love it to pieces and my free trial isn't even up yet. Since we got back on track this month with YNAB and DH is funny on board and involved, it has been awesome! So little stress now. ( about money at least)

@redsmarties: I have never tried mint, but have heard you need to link your bank accounts? That's the only thing I'm not comfortable with, which you don't need to do with YNAB. Which is why I like YNAB more.

I have YNAB and I love it! We are still trying to work out a realistic budget, so I'm pretty much just tracking what we spend right now so I can see what categories we can cut back on. The only problem I'm having is getting DH on board! I'm hoping I can sit down with him this weekend and show him the last two months in YNAB and get him on board with entering transactions and checking YNAB as opposed to our bank account when he wants to buy something.

@.twist.: I just went to look at it and they supposedly have the same level of security as banks do.
Hmm, I might be inclined to trying Mint first since it's all free... Or maybe I'll sign up w/ YNAB too for the free trial and compare the two.

@redsmarties: @.twist.: My husband and I have been using Mint for 5 years now (since we got married and combined finances) and I absolutely attribute it to us fighting about money so little. It's the reason we've been able to be completely debt-free (other than the mortgage, that is.) The only issue I've ever had with it is that our mortgage is through a credit union that's not supported by Mint, so we can't track it through there - otherwise, it's been really REALLY awesome!

It's not. And I'm stressed. And I keep telling DH we need to sit down no figure this shit out, but he doesn't seem concerned.

@.twist.: yes, you do link your bank accounts. But the security's great, so I'm pretty comfortable with it.
@snowjewelz: so far it seems great! Free is good, too!
