I'm just wondering what's the standard advice you ladies get from your doctors.
I had an emergency section for my twins in May 2012 (first pregnancy) and my doc says ideally I should wait until a full year has passed before getting pregnant again. However my local public health nurse says 18 months is preferable.
I'm thinking I'd like a summer baby again, so my v rough timetable would mean getting pregnant between August this year and January.
Thoughts?

@autumnlove: between sections? Wow so that's just 3 months, really, between section and conception. I was told 12-18 months between section and conception. Thanks!

To meet vbac candidacy they recommend having atleast 18 months between c-setion & next delivery so I would personally wait ATLEAST 8 months before even considering conceiving.
Of course the longer you wait the better.

My doctor told me at least 2 years would be ideal.

I had a csection in may and I got pregnant when DS was 6.5 months old. I was nervous to go in for my first appointment because I figured my doc would tell me how I should have waited, but he said by 6 months pp I should be completely healed and am fine. He also told my SIL that he says to wait at least 6 months after csection to get pregnant again

9 months so that my delivery for next lo would be 18 months apart if i wanted to try for a vbac..

My midwife says I have to wait 9 months before getting pregnant to have a vbac.

I heard that for a vbac you need 18 months between deliveries. If you're going to have another c-section, I'm not sure!

I've heard 10-12 months. It seems that every doctor has a different opinion from the answers above!

It does indeed @Sweet T ! Hmm. It was Twin 2's distress caused by the syntocinon that led to my section so its kind of random whether I'd need a section again. My recovery was kind of hard so I probably should give it some time and aim for a vbac. Thanks girls!

My midwives said 18 months for vbac and 1 year for another c-section.

My doctor didn't say anything other than "don't you dare show up to your 6 week checkup pregnant!"

I never asked. But, my c-sections were just about two years apart and no one gave me a hard time about it... and if we go for B3 then we will hopefully have another 2 year gap between c-sections. So I guess that means we waited about 15 months before I was pregnant again....

I learned in a nutrition class in college that all women should ideally wait at least 18 months between pregnancies in order to let your body fully heal and replenish.
