Our daughter is completely pee-trained at home; she will happily use her little potty and hasn't had a mistake in weeks.
But she hasn't used the big potty yet (aka the regular bathroom), let alone a public bathroom. I figure we'll get her used to the big potty at home, before she uses a public bathroom outside of the home.
How long after potty training was your LO able to use a public bathroom?

Immediately, LO loves the public restroom. I'm not sure we've missed a single one so far. We also didn't train with a small potty. We used the big potty at home with the insert. We've since bought new toilet seats that have the toddler insert built in. Genius!

Right away, she didn't have a problem with using big toilets, inside or outside the home.

My daughter isn't potty trained yet, but she will usually use the potty when asked and sometimes tells me when she needs to go. If she asks to go when we are out, I put her on the restroom potty and she does fine! I was surprised!

Right away. We did the 3 day method and on day 2 we took him to brunch with friends. We made at least 6 trips to the toilet during brunch, but at least he tried and didn't have any accidents!

Right away. He does pretty well in them. At daycare, he got rewarded with a Happy Meal for going in a public bathroom the first time. He loves flushing the toilet anywhere.

Right away as well. The only time my daughter hesitated was when we had to use one of those portable toilets.

Almost right away. DD doesn't mind public restrooms, and she became interested in using the adult toilet almost as soon as we started potty training.
Now, she still has pee accidents all the time, over 3 months after the beginning of potty training, so that's another issue. Sigh...
